Hmmm... Yes this lady hasn't occupied a producer position on a televised soap before, and couldn't nor shouldn't be judged on the quality of her work until her episodes begin to air.
However, her TV soap production credentials - namely short stints under Misters Collinson and Blackburn in what haven't exactly been glory periods for Coronation Street or Emmerdale - coupled with the fact Mr B has to all intent and purposes been 'promoted' (in industry terms at least) through his transfer to CS - set off the alarming warning bell that ITV clearly approve of the current standard of Emmerdale. This seems to be type of output they want to air at 7pm.
The recruitment of someone whose TV experience to date has been contributions to 2011's Emmerdale and 2012's Corrie doesn't exactly fill me with confidence about the direction ITV want to take the show in.
I would be feeling much more positive had Mr B been slung out of ITV for good and a more experienced name brought in to replace him.
Still, looking on the bright side, it would be extremely hard (not to mention bad luck) to find someone with quite so much disdain for four decades of solid characterisation, and quite so blind to viewer criticism as Mr B has systematically proven to be. Wouldn't it?
EDIT: I just read that she produced The Archers for several years - I don't know anything about The Archers except that it is rural-based - so maybe this is a step in the right direction after all. It would be interesting to hear from some Archers fans what she was like on there.
