Blog up in which there is the following;

"Might the 40-something sect would look at Melanie and say ‘look at that – fair play to her, getting older and she still looks fabulous and she’s a great singer, I’ll vote for her’?

Nah.

They’ll say ‘getting older and she still looks fabulous and she’s a great singer. Bitch.’ and then vote for one of the more fragile girls. Don’t believe me? So how come, despite being nowhere near the worst performer, the talented, attractive, slim and borderline 30 year old Carolynne garnered the least votes last week then, hmmm?!?"

No. I'm in the "40-something sect" and I liked Melanie's voice, but I don't vote. I imagine that was her real problem - I liked her music, I could identify with her and wish her well, but I'm not going to cross a line and phone Xfactor.

Then, as a non-voter, you're not relevant to the point above in the first place?

Well, the writer does say "I’m not considering the potential that guys make up enough of the vote to matter. Sue me".

As an over-40 guy myself I voted for her, but I can well believe there aren't enough of me to make a difference.

"Kinda"? No, being called a MILF is a compliment. May not be the most elegant way of putting it, but the meaning is the same either way. Melanie herself was very flattered by it and even thanked Tulisa on twitter.

Precisely, and thankyou. It doesn't matter if Mel makes every other 40-something green with jealousy or jump with delight, if we don't vote for anybody it isn't going to affect the result.

I'm over 40, don't vote and thought Melanie wasn't a good singer at all. Far too screechy and shouty. Carolynne was much better but came across as desperate so I didn't take to her.

Dare I push boundaries and suggest it is sadly a term that can be used for far too many teenagers in the here and now?

Did Tulisa call her a MILF on-show? That's pushing the line a little on family entertainment...

Yes, and no it's not really. She said it at half ten. No child should really be up at that time watching X Factor.

As others have said, the 30+ age group don't tend to vote. Many of us are just watching with the kids.

I thought she was a nice lady with a good voice but she's not by sort of thing.

Disagree, Carolynne had a dreadful song choice, Gary failed her completely. Calling her Country but giving her Nicki Minaj, making an old song sound incredibly dated putting off fans of the song in an instant. She looked dead behind the eyes singing it, almost as if she knew it was a dreadful choice and completely wrong for her ("Jump in my Hoop-de-hoop-de-hoop" Gary's attempt to not not make the overs a laughing stock category got off to a great start with lyrics like that being sung)

Melanie gave a substandard version of a song which could be heard without spending 35p during the next ad break, why waste money voting? Her shouting act became boring, her singing wasn't all that. It wasn't really a shock to see her in the bottom two, many people called it because her performance wasn't that great. Her sing off performance was back to the shout shout shout and she rightly left.

I thought Melanie was good but she's just boring now as you've kinda seen what she can do.
