Soap actors who don't play themselves
Just as a bit of an antithesis to the other thread that's around at the moment ...
![]() Jean Alexander as Hilda Ogden Lynne Perrie as Ivy Tilsley Any others? |

97% of them.
I would assume, that most of them would be much more pleasant IRL. |

Most probably put a bit of themselves into their character, particularly if they've been playing them for a long time.
But there are some actors who are totally different to their characters: Jeff Hordley - Cain Dingle David Neilson - Roy Cropper Adam Woodyatt - Ian Beale Shirley Stelfox - Edna Birch Alison King - Carla Connor |

I doubt many of the baddies and bitches play themselves, if they do I don't think they'd still be in a job.

Kate Fors is NOTHING like her character having met her. She's soooo lovely and sweet in real life.
Steve McFadden is a very nice guy aswell. |

Regardless of whether the soap character is like the actor, you still need acting talent.
You can't just stand in front of a camera and say your lines, it doesn't work, people who aren't actors look unnatural, can't say their lines with tone, and can't project without shouting. |

Charley Webb seems to be like a happy, cheerful person, totally opposite of Debbie.
Michelle Keegan the same. |

I was surprised by Charley when I started following her on twitter just how happy and upbeat she seems.

I think it's the producers to blame for this rather than Charley though, as she has proved numerous times she can actually act when needed but the robotic monotone style in most of her scenes she has going on is horrible. |

She's probably in character as Debbie who is a miserable sod.

Anyone mentioned Charlie Brooks? She is a fantastic actress, nothing like what Janine is, such a lovely lovely person.

Personally I couldn't care less what any of them are like in real life. I only care whether or not I believe in the character they are portraying.
I don't currently believe for a single second the following current characters, (by current, I mean the way they are acting now, not necessarily how they used to be) : Gail Platt - used to be brilliant, now being asked to do pantomime comedy, which is not her forte. Yobbit & Seanocchio - neither could act their way out of a paper bag Deirdre - once a serious and multi-faceted character. Now turned into a drudge with no apparent morals or scruples where her psycopath daughter is concerned. Traceyluv - but then t'was ever thus Robbie/Ry-un - see Yobbit/Seanocchio above Gloria Price - brilliant actress but I don't believe in this particular character, due entirely to terrible writing/storylining. I could go on, but............
