oh wow the disparity is just so astounding

Ellie may have sold a little less but in terms of talent and the quality of the albums Ellie will be leagues ahead of Cher for a long while yet

This, plus give it a few weeks and she'll be ahead on overall.

If people just put their preconceptions of Cher Lloyd to one side, they'd probably realise that Sticks + Stones is a brilliant pop album. The Guardian wrote a nice piece on it here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012...2012-shortlist

It's a nice debut pop album, yes, but Halcyon is streets ahead in every sense.

That's Queen Cher Lloyd for you

But seriously Sticks + Stones is such a great pop album with no fillers that most people will be able to relate to.

I only listened to about the first 5 or so tracks on Ellie Goulding's new album but I really didn't like it, which is a shame because I bought her amazing debut album.

Cher sales are very impressive since 90% of the album was already on web for a year..

Ellie selling 30k is amazing without a hit single from that album as of yet. The Lights hype carried that record. I did wonder how it would sell. props to her. Lights deserved to smash. I hope she gets a hit of Halcyon.

I actually think on the whole Halcyon is pretty disappointing, and Cher's is probably a better quality overall, especially with the new tracks replacing a few of the weaker links (although Dub on The Track is amazing and shouldn't have been replaced).

Funny how no one has mentioned Cher's second week sales in US

Drops to No 36 and just over 11K.

it's for reasons like that that sales facts and figures tell us only part of the story these days. People need to stop obsessing over stats looking for signs of an artists trajectory and accept the industry is more fractured than that these days

Cher & Ellie have done pretty well and in line with others of a similar ilk, nothing to indicate imminent world domination but enough of a strong fanbase to carve out decent careers

now lets quit with the comparisons and all that

I doubt Cher would even know how to pronounce the name of Ellie's album. Or what it means

Hold on, just give me a sec while I search for the point of that post...

Cher and Ellie are barely comparable anyway. Both satisfy enormously different markets (save perhaps the cross-over of teenyboppers).

I like Cher Lloyd's 'Want U Back' more than I like the album or her as a person. Both are quite evidently shit. Ellie's new album is boring but 'Anything Could Happen' is still quite lovely. I like how she's much more vocally diverse and doesn't resort to wailing to create something emotive.

Love Ellie's new album, so glad it has had success in the US. I think it will fare better in the long term in comparison to Cher Lloyd's

And can i just say to the OP there is a 1K copy difference but in terms of overall US sales Ellie is still ahead as Lights has sold well over 2M by now as opposed to Cher's 1M for want u back.

The headline is really that they've both gone from moderate UK success to building a bit of momentum Stateside. They've sold a good number of singles, not so many albums (that's the way of it these days) and now it's all about the next singles.

This is Ellie's 2nd album, ala the sophmore slump. Compare when Cher is on hers.

please don't use that word, it's horrific. Can we just go back to the old 'difficult second album'
