Emmerdale: What do the traditionalists think of the show now 40 years on?
Ive always been a fan well im 36 so not always.. but you get my drift.. i think its got the right balance now im happy!
![]() Wish Emmerdale would get back to more realty though rather than go for the shock story lines, to keep toe with EE and Corrie.. but hey still the best of the 3 for me! got the better actors of the 2 ITV shoe for me too.. (worst child actor in Sarah though.. as cruel as that is.. hoping she the 1 who pops her cloggs tomorrow) |

hard to say, ive watched since 82, its always had its stronger and weaker moments, but id prefer it to be more rural based instead of city based issues set in the countryside. the original idea of emmerdale was a rural soap. maybe its drifted away from this.

I could never understand why my family watched Emmerdale. I started taking an interest last year before Cain got attacked and for me it is the best soap on the box. Eastenders is depressing and everybody looks dirty. Corrie has become a pantomime and I dont care for the characters.

I started watching from the very first episode loved the family/farm/village atmosphere. The stories seemed real and the characters believable.
Fast forward and we have what we have today and it isn't great IMO. Still the best soap but not a patch on what it used to be. Much is to do with home farm needing a strong family and also needing less sensational stories and more believable characters. |

I too have watched the show from the beginning.
Yes, it has changed massively since the start(Emmerdale Farm) but had to do or else(methinks) it would not be inexistence today in its original format. It had to develop away from the Farm for more storylines(was originally on at 10.30pm on a Monday) and just one episode, though if I remember correctly, it was also shown as a couple of half hourly shows as repeats on a couple of weekdays. i love the programme(though would not want to live there for the usual reasons!) Long may you reign, Emmerdale, and good luck to everyone involved in tonight's live episode. (I think it's one of Declan, Katy,Robbie or Megan)......and Katy Macy sounds a bit odd too! |

I'll always find it better than Eastenders and I regularly find it better than Corrie too

I agree it needed to broaden out from the farm but it could have broadened without the sensational storylines and when it had a chance to broaden they dropped the story it seemed at the time - they never even mention the Kings development now and they could have included people living there quite naturally into the stories.
