To be honest, Rigsby isn't that good at concealing things.

I didn't realise the season finale had come so soon lol i thought there were still quite a few episodes to go. How many episodes in total were in Season 5?

The last 3 episodes including the finale were pretty good.

The Rigsby/Van Pelt radio episode i think was my favourite episode out of the entire season. Such a brilliant episode and the Rigsby/Van Pelt heart to heart was done brilliantly. Jane was also fab in this.

The La Roche episode was good but unusual. Loved the Jane/La Roche chemistry. Does anyone know what's meant to be in the tupperware box? I almost thought it was Red John related. At the very end of the episode when Lisbon went to vist the rapist and discovered his tongue has been cut out did anyone else think he was trying to say 'Red John'? I certainly did!

The finale was interesting but thought it could have been better than what we got. I don't think anything will beat the Season 3 finale ever. So am i right in thinking that one of the 7 people in Jane's list is definetely RJ? Or was it RJ being clever in knowing that Jane would think of 7 suspects and named them all?

If RJ was able to delve into Jane's mind and kill one of his memories then surely it's got to be someone from Jane's past? Someone we haven't seen on screen and not one of the 7 suspects? Tbh i'm still confused.

Anyone else think that Jane gave RJ the memory as a ploy to help work out who he is. A few episodes a go the dodgy FBI man had some people break into Jane's office and photograph his board where he has been making connections. When jane got back to his office at the end of that episode and saw that the match stick had fallen out, meaning that the door had been opened, he smiled and walked in episode over.

Fast forward a few episodes and RJ seemingly reads Jane's memories reaches out and kills a happy one, could it be possible that Jane had, on his board, pictures/clues that could lead someone to that outcome (a bit like Derren Brown with some of his shows).

Although I'm not sure if Jane would sacrifice an old friend/stranger to get one step closer to RJ but you never know.
I did think actually that that board was full of false information.

I think the rapist's tongue is what JJ has kept in the Tupperware box.
I'm sure I read elsewhere online that's what the secret is...

That was blatantly obvious as soon as Jane found out he'd had his tongue cut out ..

So, does nobody have a theory as to why Lisbon showed up with her right arm in plaster, an injury that was supposedly gained on the night of Eileen Barlow's murder?

He's got to be Patrick hasn't he?

There can't be many other satisfactory answers as to how Red John knows so much about his past, the way his mind works and the fact we've yet to see him and Patrick together...

We did have that end of season cliffhanger where Jane was tied to a chair and Red John was supposedly standing beside him.

I do think that the clipboard he has up in his 'office' will be full of fake information designed to flush Red John out though. Jane clearly smiled when he realised his office had been broken in to.

I don't think it was implied that it happened that night at all. Since Robin Tunney had broken her wrist they had to make a passing reference to the fact she was wearing a cast. Nothing odd about it at all in my opinion.

I would really hate it if Jayne is RJ

It wouldn't make any sense, Lorelei would of known wouldn't she? the other guy who names escapes me who Lorelei shot knew RJ as did the women on this weeks episode

And that is just from this series, there's been plenty of similar instances of people knowing RJ and not going Hi RJ when they see Patrick

Just nothing about the show would make any sense if it turned out that way.

Plus hasn't Bruno Heller said RJ is one of the 7 on the list and is definitely not Patrick

The list is a red herring.

Cho is Red John. No-one can be that dead-pan without being a homicidal maniac. He is actually in partnership with Rigsby who is the brains of the operation.

I've spent the last few months powering through seasons 1 to 5, so at last I can come and look at the forum!

So, Jane's final list of 7:

1: Bret Stiles
2: Gale Bertram
3: Ray Haffner
4: Reede Smith
5: Robert Kirkland
6: Sheriff Thomas McAllister
7: Brett Partridge

IIRC, in 'Red Barn', we're told that RJ is a young man at the time of the killings which rules out 1, 2 and 6. 5 is too obvious - he's got to be an accomplice. 4 has only been in the show for a few minutes, and was decidedly un-RJ like. Which leaves 3 & 7 - if I have to bet, my money's on Haffner.

BUT I'm hoping it's someone not on the list, none of them seem to fit very well with what we know about him.

Things that bug me:

Why does RJ do what he does? He's obviously a clever man, what's his motivation?
Why are so many important people willing to help him, and in some cases, die for him?
How can he 'read' PJ's mind? Is that just a televisual flourish, following the series' line of PJ doing magic that's clearly impossible? (several times he's planted things on people when he's never touched them)
Roll on September 29th....

I gave up such questions years ago, there have been too many red herrings, dead ends, smoke and mirrors in this show.
The Mentalist is a fun procedural show with a feeble minor background story drifting aimlessly.
This year rather than give us a red herring they gave us seven of them. I'd be very surprised if RJ is on the list. I'd be equally surprised if RJ has even appeared on the show yet. I doubt the writers have decided who it is yet, they'll do that when the series gets an end date and they have to wrap it up.
And this won't give us much time after we discover who RJ is to do any analysis on his actions, motives, organisation. or on the impact of the conclusion to rhe RJ story on PJ and his CBI colleagues. I would love them to conclude the RJ and have at least one (if not more) season for the fall out but I don't see this happening.

In case anyone was wondering what had happened to The Mentalist reruns on 5*, it has now moved to 5USA. Same night Thursday evening and three episodes a week. In addition to this runthrough of Season 4, Season 2 is showing again weeknights at 5pm beginning today. New season starts on Channel 5 soon.

According to DS Tube Talk Q&A it might be November when the new season starts which was the same as last year.

I'm sure i read somewhere that Simon Baker said he had signed a contract for 7 seasons of The Mentalist (which is the norm in the US), but it's been stated that RJ will be properly revealed in Season 6 and some have said as a result this new season may be the last. Does anyone know if this is true?

I'd love another season if this is the season that the RJ arc finally comes to an end. The following 7th and final season could be the fallout from everything that happens.

Tuesday seems rather an odd night to me

It's gonna clash with Elementary on Sky Living which is a similar show and I'm guessing has a lot of the same viewers.

Plus what about CSI? that usually starts in Feb/March dosn't it? Is CSI gonna be delayed till after the Mentalist finishes which is usually around Late May/Early June just after the States?

I can see it moving back to Friday nights at some stage? didn't it move to a Thursday 2 years ago and when it came back from the break it was back on a Friday.
