It's considerably up on recent ratings but it does seem very modest in comparison to the boosts the other two saw.

They may also be disappointed that it is only marginally higher than the episode where Zak was revealed as Cain's attaker. While that was a big storyline itself it did not have the added live element.

imagine there'll be a sense of relief that extra viewers tuned in but I personally can't help but feel underwhelmed after the other two...

I thought it would get over 9m but 8.8m is still very good.

Emmerdale has been struggling to reach 7m for ages so they should be pleased with 8.8m.

It was just as piss poor then; it just pulled every trick in the book:

1. hype hype and more hype
2. Who dunnit?
3. Reveall
4. A Shock (ie: sensationalistic and illogical) to the reveal
5. First live ep
6. A death

It ain't great now and it weren't great then. Ee has not be great in 6 years.

The last time the show was particularly worth watching would've been the mid-late 2007 period. If you want a stellar year you need to go back to Chrissie's time.

Two months of midly entertaining but badly-written stuff, a nonsensical reveal and months of tedium after that hardly screams classic EE.

Not bad. I think it would have been higher had it gone out at 8pm. I thought 7pm was a bit early for a live episode even though it is Emmerdale's usual slot.

I think it's a good rating for 7pm and it's what I was expecting it to get. The share of 40% is excellent.

If it had a really big episode like the live one it could.

And fall right back down again. I imagine people were only tuning into Archie's stuff sheerly for the hype surrounding it and the ratings for the live aftermath were pretty much identical to before it and they kept dropping by one million until the week ended on 9.44m - as opposed to the live's 14.91m and direct aftermath's 11.42m?

No. You don't get to say 'oh well the live had 17m so the storyline must've gripped the nation'. Bottom line is no one really gave a shit about Archie and people switched off after the live, so it clearly wasn't that good a storyline.

If that's what gripped the nation, you may as well put the Ferrairas' kidney plot and Phil/Dawn up there with all the finest storylines the show has ever done.

I kinda expected to be higher atleast 10 million.... even if some of arent ED viewers

Which one of them is me, i was definately going to check the live episode out, but i couldnt do so.... as around about 7ish we had a prayer as its navratri festival started on tuesday in our hindu religion, so what i am also saying is most people across the country who are celebrating it, and watch ED or just wanted to tune in to the live episode were probably out at different venues to celebrating the festival, i would expect that to be counted in as well........ some of the viewers figures to be just little low due to that

Aren't 2 and 3 the same? It was the reveal of a whodunnit.

And Emmerdale's was their first live ep too so that's not got anything to do with it.
