That Bono Springsteen story is a pretty famous urban myth Can't believe he got away with that
Just watched the show and thought wow isnt Springsteen brilliant for doing that....then I saw your post about its being a myth

Bono pays for dinner and Springsteen snaps the picture!

3/16/2012

Was looking for some news about U2 and found this story--amazing, right?!

A girl was in a restaurant in Dublin a few weeks ago with her friend, they were seated and about to order when the manager came over and asked them if they wouldn't mind moving as Bono was on his way in and that was his usual table. He said he would tell Bono that they moved for him. They didn't mind at all, moved, and a while later, in came Bono and a few other guys. Shortly after, a waiter brought the girls over a drink from Bono as a Thank You for giving him the table.

After a while, (and after a few drinks) the girls got the courage to go over and ask for an autograph and a photo. Bono obliged and the girls gave their camera to one of the other men at the table to take a photo, which he did.

They were happy and went back to their table and Bono and gang left before they did. When they were leaving, they went to pay for their meal but it had already been paid for. They said to the waiter that that was very generous of Bono to pay for their meal and he said it wasn't Bono.......the man they had gotten to take the photo was Bruce Springsteen, but the girls had no idea, and he paid for the meal!

I must tell you a funny story that could only happen in Ireland. A friend of mine, Jackie, is Bono's biggest fan. Her dream came true last year when her husband got her tickets to see U2 perform in Dublin. They stayed in Dublin the night before, and went out for a meal. Jackie was amazed as she looked across the restaurant and saw Bono eating with a few friends! She said to her husband, "This is my chance to get his autograph!" He said "Calm down, let the man eat in peace. He must be annoyed by fans every few minutes." So Jackie resisted interrupting Bono's meal. However, when a guy who was eating with Bono walked past their table towards the rest rooms, she stopped him and begged him to get Bono's autograph for her. The guy laughed and later returned with a signed photo of Bono. Jackie was so happy, especially since Bono and his friends left shortly after.

When Jackie and her husband had finished their meal, Jackie asked for the bill. The waitress said, "Don't worry, that's all paid for." Jackie said, "What? Bono paid for our meal? That's fantastic!" The waitress said, "No, his friend Bruce Springsteen did."

Only in Ireland would "The Boss" be asked to get Bono's autograph!

Loved Helena Bonham Carter. Not so keen on the endless "bromance" between Jack Whitehall and Michael Buble (in fact, I hate this "bromance" idea altogether; male friendship I get, homosexuality I get, but what the f*** is this "bromance" crap?)

I looked at who was on and would have liked to have watched Helena Bonham Carter then saw the other guests with the usual third rate "comedian" and a singer I don't like, so put BBC4 on.

Helena seems to have forgotten that there was a cinema version of Great Expectations in 1998 with Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Deniro .

I thought she was wrong about that. I can't see many people rushing out to see the film

It was a modern remake though, rather than a faithful adaptation of the book. Perhaps that's what she meant?

Michael Palin was not on for that long. Same as his previous appearance a few years ago. I don't think he'll ever come in from the beginning. He always comes in towards the end.Hate when that happens.

It was interesting to see Buble come in towards the beginning . Lastt ime, he came in only at the end. (I think Bruno Mars is most likely going to do the same in a couple of weeks). I like seeing when the musicians come in during the show.

BTW, going by the SROAudiences tapedates, it does seem as if we are getting a proper New Years Special like 2 years ago rather than a Best Of like last year.

Both the red chair stories were clearly made up. So Nelson Mandella walked out of Birmingham Palace as every World leader does. People are saying anything to get on tv.

I had a bizarre experience the other way around when Graham told a story about himself on some chat show or other (his own or someone else’s) last year and the removal of his appendix. Basically he said it was because he claimed to be ill to avoid something in school and was so successful in his story telling that his parents called the GP and he had the operation the next day.

I forget the details of his story as I succumbed to shock as I realised he was telling a story from my life! When I was eleven we had to cover our school books with brown paper (gosh knows why) and of course I had not done it. As we lived next to the Head, and he gave me a lift into school each morning, the stakes were high. I naturally claimed an upset tummy, my parents called in the doctor who (from my perspective) punched me in the stomach, I cried out in pain and the next morning my appendix was removed. My story also includes being the youngest in the ward by some 60 years, unable to sleep because of the death rattles, unable understand why my bed was so far from the door and rowing with a nun who thought that I should get out of bed the morning after the operation at 6.00 am to wash my face.

Anyway, I am not sure what the point is to this story except that we are not as unique as we think and it’s a bit of a stunner seeing your life purloined for a funny story by a TV comedian. It was downright weird though!

I'm disappointed that Michael Palin wasn't featured much. Loved Buble's performance at the end though.

Jake Gyllenhall has had a rather obvious nose job.

Not expecting much tonight, can't stand Joan Rivers - thought she had departed this world but obviously not! Same old humour from her! As for Clarkson - yawn.

It was slightly amusing watching Clarkson and May sort of squirming in a rather English way when Joan was talking about the Porn award

Joan is great. Jake has a severe lack of a personality.

Joan Rivers looks like Kryten from Red Dwarf. Didn't she used to do routines about women who've overdone the plastic surgery? She can't possibly look in the mirror and think "Mmm, that was money well spent."
