Jake Bugg Appreciation Thread
BadKid95
18-10-2012
Thought this guy deserved his own thread seeing the love he's getting on here. He's without a doubt one of the stars of 2012 and he's bringing something good to the UK's music scene.

My favourite song at the moment is Two Fingers though special mentions to Taste It and Lightning Bolt

He's also doing a tour and he's coming up to my neck of the woods in Liverpool, considering going to see him.

I was gonna create this thread earlier but thought it might have been too soon.

Liverpool is also my neck of the woods, and I'm also going to that gig!

I've very quickly become a huge fan. Lightning Bolt, Trouble Town and Broken are my favourites. But I do like the more stripped-back songs like Country Song and Simple as This an awful lot too.

Ah cool! It's mainly money, he's playing 02 Academy as is Ellie Goulding, I'd love to see them both but it all adds up
Plus I went a few weeks back to see Azealia Banks, I was dead by the end of the night haha!

Anyway, will Jake most likely get #1 on Sunday?

No reason to suggest he won't, really. His fanbase is growing day by day through word of mouth. People are seeing his name at the top of the midweeks, checking him out, and buying his album when they like what they hear.

On the other hand, Leona Lewis doesn't have that advantage as she's an established artist who is therefore much more frontloaded.

Midweek figures were:
Jake - 19,000
Leona - 15,000

So he's pretty much 30% ahead of her there. He should definitely do it.

I'd love for him to get No. 1, It would be rare victory for real music over Cowell & Co.

He'll run riot once he goes mainstream... and he's well on his way to that. Radio playing his songs more and more over past month and he's got backing/praise from some of the big names.

A Songwriter/Singer/Guitarist can run riot in the industry, the difficult part is getting your foot through the door. Advantage is his age as Radio 1 won't hesitate to play his music. Can also dictate his own fate aswell. Was reading something from Elton John about this... popstars struggle because they depend heavily upon others writing and producing their songs. If you've actually got talent, you'll be around for a long time.

That's true. Even if you never recreate the success of your biggest hit/album, you're still able to continue making music because you're not relying upon others.

My copy of the album arrived today.

I was pleased to see that he held up really well this week again. I did wonder how he would do in his second week but he only dropped to 3 on the album chart and sold over 20k this week,
Album sales to date is 57,256

I was listening to the album earlier. Broken is a lovely song.

"Broken" has been released having been re-recorded in California with Rick Rubin. First play is on Radio 1 RIGHT NOW! There will also be talk about the new album.

I really love the original version so I'm not sure how I feel about this. The drums are more upbeat.

One of my favourite artists today, I love both albums.

Two Fingers was the song that first got me into his music, but it's tracks on his albums that are my favourites, like Ballad of Mr Jones and All Your Reasons.

My favourites out of his singles are Seen It All (which unfortunately only rose to 61), a great song, catchy, and a story. The other is Me and You, which missed the charts entirely.
