Carl dying - Blessing in disguise?
Dixon

Carl was one of my fav charcters, so i'm obviously gutted he's gone.

I felt he still had more to give, but he's at his peak now So, in years to come, won't he be remembered like a great pop or movie star who's life was ended when they were at their peaks, rather than someone who was once great but faded away?

I think 'loveable characters' can go on well past their sell-by, as they become a part of the furniture.
But with the 'villians' i think there's always a time for them to go, no matter how popular they are with fans.

I've always been a firm believer of the old showbiz of saying of 'always leave them wanting more', and that is what they've done with Carl!

If it is a blessing, it's very, very well disguised!

I do understand what you mean to a degree.

Eventhough I will miss the character and actor at least they had a rememberable exit and will be remembered fondly.

Thats a good point actually, plus Carl always had to pay for the lives he took, it was only a matter of time until the grim reaper came calling

My main gripe really is how the character was taken to extreme villainy in the actual build-up to his death in order to justify it. Fair enough, he maybe needed karmic justice for his past wrongs. But to make him so irredeemable, and the final scene between a much-invested in soap pairing being him potentially raping her is so disappointing.

I would have preferred it playing out like another poster on a different thread suggested, with Chas genuinely falling for Carl again and Cameron killing him in a jealous rage.

That's the issue I have with the death.

While I believe in karma, I don't think soaps should be so keen to make people pay so promptly for their bad deeds, eg in Corrie where Frank wasn't convicted of raping Carla, but was rather too speedily murdered soon afterwards. In real life, people who do bad things often don't pay for them for a very long time, they don't all come to a bad end so quickly. I'd have kept Carl around, causing mayhem and all sorts of trouble for a few years yet. Tracy Barlow in Corrie is one of the few bad characters who seems to be allowed to keep on causing trouble, but even she was dispatched to prison for a good few years.

I also think leaving only one King brother is a mistake. Jimmy's relationship with Carl was always interesting, a mixture of brotherly love and exasperation, and it was sad to see it disintegrate so badly in the recent storyline. But if Carl hadn't died, the brothers' relationship could maybe have been retrieved, at least it would've been interesting to see what would have happened between them. But now it's just Jimmy and with all his brothers gone, he only has Nicola to fight with now.

I couldn't agree more about the final scene between Carl and Chas.
There were many different and better ways they could have finished Carl and Chas and killed him off, but i'm thinking more about him going at the right time rather than how he went.

No it most certainly was not a blessing in disguise but maybe I'm too emotional involved with him as a character as I felt he still had a lot of story left in him as Carl King.
Plus they really didn't have to make him become a totally horrible person over the last few months in order to justify that he deserved to die?!

They did this with Ashley and it didn't work in my opinion and yet again they thought they had to do it again so we the audience/viewer would have to believe that they had it coming because they had become to bad and nasty as a person. Do me a favour?!

I have a feeling that whatever he does after Emmerdale, he will be good.

Agree with the others... if he had to go... it shouldnt have been like it was. There's no way he would have ever attempted to rape chas, and theres no way she would ever have found him that repulsive.

The scriptwriters have done a very poor job with this, and I could have done a better job.

I agree the writing for Carls exit was just downright stupid he would have never have done to chas .
as for the character of Carl King in my eye`s he is and always will be The Legend that is Carl King

its not a blessing as its left Jimbo redundant as a character.

That's the thing really - as shown with the live episode. The writers and producers were confident enough in Tom's acting ability to give him the big reponsibility of being centre stage in it.And I think he stepped up to the plate and delivered - good on 'im.

He seems to be very positive about things despite being axed - will be interesting to see what he decides to do post panto.

I think he got a lucky escape after killing Tom, to be honest. I thought that was it for him, so for the character to last another 6 years after a murder is pretty amazing.

He had to pay eventually.

In the Emmerdale 40 show last night they said Carl wasn't their first choice as murderer, and that the producer had changed her mind about it. Wonder who their original candidate was.....

That was his 2nd murder, years before he knocked a fellow of a ladder (deliberatly) and he got away with that too.

Actually Carl and Paul the Postman were on a scaffolding and Carl threw something for Paul to catch, he overreached for it, fell backwards and died. It was a total accident
