Corrie - Alf's portrait
I always feel a pang of sadness when scenes take place under the watchful eye of Alfeh's portrait in Coronation Street.

Always seems quite prominant & deliberate. |

Having caught up on Corrie this morning I always feel slightly disappointed and a little angry that nobody references Alf, the best man Audrey has ever met.

I notice they feature Betty's photo on the Rovers wall in many shots now too.
Always seems quite prominant & deliberate. Betty always seems to be watching what's going on in the Rovers! Similarly, Uncle Albert is always in on the action at the Barlows

Lewis is a good bloke. He can't help it if 60 somethings are so shallow that they are taken in by good looks and smooth talk. They basically throw money at him because they know he wouldn't be interested otherwise. Not a million miles away from using the services of a prostitute.

I was going to correct that to 'Mr' for you, then I clicked what you meant.
![]() ![]() Totally agree with the sentiment, he was a legend. ![]() Our Aud only married him for his money though, although she grew to love him in her own way. Always felt she loved him more in death than she ever did in life though, not wishing to be mean. When 'Alfie luvvie' was alive & well, I remember her wandering eye - such as appearing on her doorstep in her revealing nightie trying to seduce Jim McDonald (so she was). |

Just wondering did anyone notice when Lewis was grovelling to Audrey in the salon, he reached up and pulled at a lock of his hair at the front, isn't that what you call "tugging your forelock"? Made me laugh, anyway

But I like Audreh and I like to think she did eventually realise what she had in Alfie after he was gone.

Yes you're right - poor Alfie only achieved sainthood in our Aud's eyes after his demise. She was always 'a bit of a one' wasn't she?

One of my earliest soap memories is of Alf Roberts having a heart attack and someone, it was either Audrey or Gail, finding him face down unconcious. Then of course years later he died of one.

Where's Gail's Dad btw, has his absence been explained? |

Did Audrey ever actually play away, thought she was just a bit flighty and flirty.

I know he gave Gail away when she married Joe McIntyre, but I think he went back home to London after that.

I did love the scenes in The Corner Shop in the 1980s when Audrey priced something with the pricing gun too cheaply and Percy Sugden insisted that Alf must sell it at that price! Alf was furious!
