Would you like to see a reduction in soap episodes per week?
When soaps first started, they were all showed only two, maybe three episodes per week, and now, soaps range from four to six episodes per week.
Do you think soaps should go back to two or three episodes per week? Or are you happy with the amount of episodes that are currently being broadcasted? If you could, what would be your ideal schedule for all the soaps?

I feel a little sorry for the soap stars, because it is long hours and if you're in a main storyline it must be pretty gruelling crying or shouting all day!
But no, I don't want a reduction in episodes, sadly my evening entertainment is the soaps...I'm a poor student!

As things are currently, we only see the people on Coronation Street on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, and then only for half an hour or an hour at a time. This leaves four days each week when we have no idea what they are doing, as well as other times of day. It would be much better for continuity if we could drop in to see them every day of the week, several times each day, so we know what is going on. Maybe they could put a webcam in the Rovers and in each of the houses, so we can choose who we watch and listen to.

Yeah. Quality over quantity comes to mind.

No way - only really watch emmerdale religiously and love that it is on every week night. Would not want a reduction of any sort - increase to 7 nights yes .... all for that.

I wouldn't like to see a reduction, but for Corrie example: Instead of having two episodes on a Monday, one on a Wednesday and two on a Friday, I'd rather have one on every weekday - that way we're seeing a working week on the Street?

The soaps would improve immeasurably if they didn't have so much time to fill with completely disposable crap.

The quality could improve if they decreased Corrie to 4 episodes a week, but they must have had reasons why they increased the number of episodes per week.
Maybe they should remove the Friday 2nd episode and just have one episode. |

A lot of people will probably disagree with my view and I'm not here for an argument, this is just my opinion, so please, if you don't agree, just respect it.
But I believe with the larger episode numbers has come a decrease in quality of storyline. I'd rather fewer episodes, a smaller cast in each soap and more focus on telling the stories of their lives than melodrama and countless spare parts. |

I would rather see Eastenders go to three episodes a week, going out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday as the BBC has very little on a Wednesday at the moment. I'd perhaps aim to have an hour episode on a Friday at least once month for tying up particularly large storyline. For example this week would of seen Thursday and Friday's episode combined which I think would have run a lot more smoothly.
For Corrie, I'd probably do the same but as they already have two hour long episodes, I'd cut half an hour off Monday and just keep an hour specifically for a Friday. Emmerdale, I could go down to three episodes a week, going out on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. |

I think Eastenders is nicely balanced throughout the week.
Corrie, whilst it seems to be a lot longer between episodes nowadays would benefit from losing those doubles on Mondays and Fridays. But I've completely given up so I don't care anymore. And Emmerdale I'm enjoying but would probably be better if it dropped down to four half hours or something. The schedule is a bit crammed. |

I think John Yorke said it was cheaper for EastEnders to make 4 episodes a week than it would be to create 2 or even 3.

I don't mind the amount of soap episodes, but can understand the arguments for the reduction of episodes increasing quality.
Personally I'd keep the number of soap episodes and just stop all the "Scripted Reality TV" drivel such as Towie etc. Cut that and make more proper drama. (On a side note, how can reality actually BE scripted. Pile of utter crap )Just MHO lol |

Perhaps keep all the episodes but thin out the casts and have fewer but better and more substantial story lines.

...but I do feel for the soap stars who are involved in big storylines. The schedule must be gruelling for them. |
