Hi everyone,

I really want to start reading comics, but there are so many and I have no idea where to begin! I was hoping some of you could suggest some good comics to start on.

I love anything superhero, and I'm a huge fan of all things post-apocalyptic & horror.

Thanks!
Lara

The Walking Dead would be one place to start, then. The same writer also does a superhero series called Invincible which is worth checking, too.

Thanks. I was definitely thinking of The Walking Dead as I watch the TV version & absolutely love it. I've just been putting the comics off because I like not knowing what's coming up in the show. I know Robert Kirkman produces the show so I imagine it would be a pretty close adaption...?

Certainly going to check out Invincible though. Just read a short synopsis & it does sound like a comic I'd enjoy

I've not seen the show but my missus has watched it and read the comics (picked up the Omnibus book which collects issues 1-50) and says there are a fair few differences. The TV show is made for screen audiences so the story/characters have been adapted as such.

Obviously, if you're starting out from scratch then it might be worth picking up Watchmen, too. It's widely available as a graphic novel. The Dark Knight Returns is another good one. They cover the superhero remit and are some stand out stories written and illustrated by some top creators.

Also, for post-apocalyptic fun, check out Anthony Johnston's Wasteland series. Brilliant stuff, there. I think the first issue is available free online...

ETA: yep, Wasteland #1 is free here: http://www.onipress.com/thebigwet/do...freeissue1.php

No probs. Obviously, there is loads of super hero stuff out there but I've tried to keep with self-contained stuff. It might be worth having a look at Bendis' Powers series, too...

I'm sure other posters will come along and hurl more at you

Y: The Last the Man is fantastic, also pick up some of the Marvel Essental books which are very good value.

For Batman try Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, The Long Halloween, Dark Victory and The Killing Joke.

The Ultimate Spiderman Omnibus is great too and you wouldn't be getting caught up in years of confusing continuity.

Enjoy

Cool, thanks! Just searched all of them quickly & they all look really good. Think the Batman comics are a MUST & Y: The Last the Man looks interesting.
