Smart TV USB HDD recording problem
My 500GB Western Digital USB 2.0 HDD worked OK for a few weeks on my Samsung UE40ES6800 but recently a 'Device needs repair' type message pops up now and again. When I try to run Repair device I'm informed that the repair was unsuccessful and that I need to reformat. Anyone else experienced this type of problem on Samsung Smart TVs?

Not me. My Hitachi 320GB drive has worked without errors since July 2011 on the D6530.

There are a few of us who have seen this problem and, of course, the suggestion made by the Samsung representative was that my HDD must be at fault.
However, after a brief investigation it became evident that the TV's HDD management software is at fault: In a nutshell, the TV's software can corrupt the HDD's XFS file structure (apparently randomly). On my PC running Ubuntu, the HDD is seen as 'unmountable'. However, after carrying out an xfs_repair the HDD becomes accessible in Ubuntu and works perfectly fine again on the Samsung TV. See here for more info. |

Yes I am now on my second Samsung 500gb M3 hard drive after the first one failed after about 5 weeks, the new drive had an indicated problem after the first week and I had to "repair it" while connected to the TV and reformat thus loosing several programmes, it has been running now for three days......
Not very happy especially as I thought I will use a Samsung hard drive as its a Samsung TV and forego any compatability problems, if only! |

Yes, had the same sort of issue (refused to recognise device or format it). Had to format it in W7, then reformat on the tv to get it to work again.
