Maloney has now been branded "disingenuous" by former employer Mollie Daley of Peel Entertainment, who hired him to sing on First Choice's Bolero cruise ship in 2000 after spotting his ad in an entertainment industry paper.

"I was astonished when I listened to all these claims by Chris to Gary Barlow that no one had given him a chance," she told The Sun. "That was so disingenuous of him... we gave him months of vocal coaching.

"It's strange that he says he was so nervous, because he didn't show a hint of nerves when he was on stage with us. In fact he became so popular he ended up recording an album that we sold on board."

Maloney admitted his cruise ship work to the publication, but insisted that he only "did bingo calling and family quizzes".

"[It was] only for a few hundred people," he explained. "It was nothing like X Factor. It's all new to me."

He must have been (mis)advised to keep referencing meNan, as no normal 34 year old man would go on about this incessantly.

Re the fake thing, not to make a point in his favour, but I would think there is and has been a huge amount of fakery, both in X factor and showbiz in general over the years.

You could say a similar thing about Leona, of course, as it has been well documented since that she knew Cowell before, but it was never referenced on the show .

(Waits for backlash)

When he is being criticised it looks like he's rather angry unlike some acts who take their criticism on board in order to improve, I think he has nerves but he overexaggerates them

No, he is not talented enough to be pushed through in the way Leona was. He just got lucky with Gary championing him (and now Gary probably feels he can't back down as he picked him for his wildcard).

The producers probably pushed to carry on the nerves angle and it has now backfired on both Chris, Gary and the show in general.

I meant it more of a general comment about fakery on X factor/showbiz.
