Have you ever stopped watching a soap for a considerable amount of time because you found a paricular storyline too difficult to watch. Maybe you found the story painful or just plain cringeworthy and annoying. I'm sure lots of people threaten to stop watching but don't actually go thorough with it especially with something like the EE baby swap story.
I stopped watching Emmerdale when Ashley started to abuse his father as it just made me feel uncomfortable and only started watching again last week since the live episode. (I realise the abuse sl didn't last that long but I just got out of the way of tuning in.)
What made you stop watching a soap and for how long?

Yes.

I've not been watching Coronation Street 'properly' for a good couple of months now.

I literally switched off during the episode where Tracy was in hospital with her kidney infection. Tracy made a joke about Samir's 'dodgy kidney' at which Deirdre chuckled. Deirdre would never have laughed at such a comment.

Since then I've watched a handful of episodes, but mainly because I missed the Cobbleheads on the episode discussion threads

I gave up on Neighbours at the beginning of 2010 as I got fed up with the constant focus on the teen characters. I've never gone back to watching it again.

I gave up watching Emmerdale in June 2008 as I was getting bored of it. Got back into it around Christmas time with the whole Shane murder story. I didn't stop watching for very long!

Gave up on Home and Away ad I'm trying to quit Neighbours. Got bored with the former and hate everyone in the latter. Habit now.

I'd only ever wandered in and out of Coronation Street but I stopped watching it altogether during the whole John Stape saga.

I'd only watched Emmerdale sporadically, too, but began to quite enjoy it while the Wylde's were there. I stopped watching again after they all left.

I stopped watching Home and Away when it left ITV and wasn't on for a billion years and now I barely recognise it. I haven't watched Neighbours for donkey's years either, and that's unrecognisable now as well.

Stopped watching home and away when the sutherlands arrived. Stopped watching EE since Derek joined. Never watched hollyoaks and Neighbours i watched for a short time around the plane crash. Corrie I can miss for weeks and not bother. Emmerdale is the only soap I watch every night. I never used to miss Sunset Beach!!!!

I'm glad I started watching it again if only for the sight of an angry Cain armed with a crowbar....bliss

Stopped watching Corrie when Tony Gordon left, stopped watching Emmerdale when the Kings came into it (couldn't stand the father shouting about 'the laaaaaaaaaaand' any more), stopped watching Home&Away when Sally left, and I have a feeling I'm going to stop watching EE when Christian and Syed leave.

I stopped watching corrie a couple of years ago, when Gails (3rd, 4th?) husband drowned himself...enough was enough!
Considered starting to watch it again until I saw that Tracey was returning...can't stand her character so I've never returned and probably wont.

Stopped watching EE when Michael tried to get Derek to leave his brothers alone, and took a beating for it. In my opinion he actually took more than a beating and I just thought the whole thing had turned too nasty and violent. Not what I call entertainment.

Have never really stopped watching a soap, but do fast forward when certain characters are on. In Corrie when we see Gloria, Tully, Craig Charles, Fiz, Salleh/Kev. In Emmerdale it's Marlon, Charity, Zak, Lisa, Ashley (though not because he can't act), Carl (no longer need to skip him!) and the brothers who run the factory.

Yes, I haven't watched EE in ages now. Will continue until I read some decent spoilers which isn't any time soon.

Home And Away in 1993 - was getting bored and had to make way for Paradise Beach. I was watching Corrie, EE, H&A, Neighbours - something had to give. Paradise Beach lasted a year or so...I never went back - it was always 2nd best to Neighbours.
Neighbours in 1998....it wasn't the same after Helen died...and was again getting bored. Was the BIGGEST fan from 1987....will be getting the DVD's to relive
Eastenders in 2003 - I was getting bored for about 3-4 months. Went on holiday didn't record it (unlike Corrie!!) and stopped. Although I tried again when Den was brought back from the dead....but the magic was gone for me after 18 years.

Now Corrie stands alone....33 years of loyal viewing!

Yes Eastenders. I used to watch it when I lived in the US but they were far behind when I moved here so I gave up as I was lost to where I was and started watching Corrie and Emmerdale instead,. That was 10 years ago.

Were you given the "Cock-er-ney" pamphlet so you could understand it??

I stopped watching Corrie and Hollyoaks around October 2011 and then stopped watching Emmerdale around January 2012 and then eventually stopped watching EastEnders around April 2012.

It seems longer than that since I stopped watching regularly though so maybe it was 2010 and 2011 that I stopped watching them...

They all seemed to hit a rough patch at the same time and obviously watching four soaps takes a lot of your time up, and I just got fed up of the ridiculous (or lack of) storylines going on and thought it was a waste of my time so I ended up switching them all off in the end.

I do watch them all off and on though, and because I still read this forum, I have a fairly good idea what's going on and can follow the majority of stories when I do watch.

I've started watching Emmerdale regularly again now that SB's left. It use to be my favourite before he took over, so hopefully, now he's gone, it'll become enjoyable again. Gonna take a good few months to sort the mess out though.

I only ever really watched HO. I kind of watch it for a short period of time, stop watching for ages, then watch for a while again!! Have watched EE in the past but never used to watch Emmerdale, but my other half likes them both, so although I don't sit and watch religiously, have seen odds and bods of episodes. I do tend to read in the TV mags though to see what's going on in EE and HO, that's enough for me!!!

I guess I dip in and out now, more with HO. I only really see weeks of EE and Em when on hol and I can't escape the TV in the caravan!!! Thus the reason why I know what has happened the last few weeks in both soaps!!!!

I tend to find I get bored wih soaps quite quickly and certain characters annoy me, so me and soaps aren't best buds!!!

I stopped watching Neighbours 2006ish as I started working and going to the Gym so it was always on whilst I was out but I did try to keep up with odd bits and bobs. I think the last time I watched it was the plane crash..

HO, Stopped watching about 3 years ago, after Justin left.

EE Missed most of 2011 but started again, but I still dip in and out.
