Spotted a new Technika branded tablet in a new Xmas gift guide in my local Tesco. Apparently, it's for sale from November. Could be a good buy as it's likely to be well priced and it's shown as supporting google play. Unfortunately, no price or tech details anywhere to be found. Anyone heard anything about this yet?

According to a posting on Linked In, it's an "Android based 8.9" Tablet with duel core processor"
(similar to dual core? :P)

If you do a Google search you'll come across this forum entry but the posting has been removed:

I think that was posted in several forums - searching with "Looks like Tesco will be getting an Android tablet under it's own label brand in time for Xmas Called the Technika Connect" brings up a few...
Apparently it's on page 87 of the Xmas gift guide but still sparse on details. Guessing that it's between 7 and 9 inches and might have a dual core processor. If it's priced at anywhere near £100 it'll sell out very quickly.

Maybe each core fights each other in a battle to the death.

Perhaps a case of someone not being good at spelling?

Check the viewing angle of the screen before you buy, I bought a Technika TV for the bedroom, put in a cupboard and can't see the picture from the bed. Doh !

I saw one tonight in the store at Faraday Retail Park, Coatbridge. It had no details or pricing, it was just plugged in and tethered to the display stand. It was switched on, but would only allow you to input, what i guess, would be a pin code to unlock it. It is about half way between the iPad and the iPad mini in terms of size, has a 4:3 aspect and is rather thin. It hard to judge the weight because of the huge security fixing on the back of it. The only reason I picked it up was because it looked similar to an 8" 4:3 tablet I had looked at for my kids. i didnt know it was a brand new tablet, or else I would have had a more thorough look at it. If it has a good specs and is priced well, this could fly off the shelf.

I've got a Technika 32" 1080p screen here, viewing angles are fine ....

But its definitely something to check; the screen on my Vega is dire off axis, whereas the playbook is excellent from almost all angles.

Personally I wouldn't touch anything made by Technika. You get what you pay for. Been there, got the t-shirt.

Technika don't make anything. They're just a label slapped on the front of an OEM product.

I've got a Technika 32" 1080p TV, had it for well over a year, its pretty good. Only 2xHDMI ports, but can't fault the picture, especially for the price.

It will be OEM with a technika badge and maybe some preloaded apps.

I don't think they were ever brought out or sold.

Those weren't Technika they were Archos 80 Cobalt. Though it may well be those were the ones hinted at in the OP.

Possibly a last-minute change of name badge or supplier due to:

I have a friend in a local Tesco, she told me yesterday about 'a £40 tablet' that never went on sale this week as staff bought every one!

Is the tablet that never was making another appearance?

I too would be wary of anything with a supermarket "own-brand" label on it. I do have a Technika mouse which does the job although the scroll-wheel action is a bit notchy.
