Does it really affect that much (in this day and age, maybe I can understand it 30 years ago perhaps)”
wouldn't it be wonderful if it didn't matter at all?
that is the kind of message young actors like Josh Hutcherson are trying to say, that sexuality shouldn't make any difference at all to who you are as an actor. I don't actually think he is gay or bi, at the moment, but he has said it shouldn't matter if at some point in the future he did fall in love with a man! and he is quite happy to champion gay rights, as 2 of his uncles died from Aids related diseases before he was born.
However I have a feeling it matters more in some countries than others, maybe its easy to forget that being homosexual is still illegal in some parts of the world, and amongst some religious groups?
I also wonder whether a lot of people at some point in their lives do have some kind of sexual confusion or want to experiment, and even though there are some single sex families, perhaps if a guy or girl wants children, they might get married temporarily, or even permanently. So I do think peoples sexual preferences might change
