Well 22/650 is about 3.3%, which is about in line with some studies about the number of gay people in society in general. I do think there are more than 2 lesbians (Angela Eagle and Margot James are the only out ones IIRC).

I heard years ago that SG was a close friend of a very out and proud landlord of a pub I knew near Manchester, socialising with him and even going on holiday with him, although as part of a group.

I never thought anything of this even though the person telling me this was trying to imply SG was gay, as I love a good gay pub myself and had a bit of a thing about SG at the time (when he was young and good looking), your post has made me look at this in a different way now

Let's hope there is an end to all the sneering. I think, given that he is involved in sport, and it might affect sponsorship he has been brave and honest.

He has gone through a lot more than many lads of his age have had to go through, losing his dad, especially as they were so close. It is easy to forget he is still only 19

I hope he is happy and that he is left alone to live his life in the way he feels comfortable with.

Hes not been at all brave as he says hes Bi ...which we all know is bollocks....He'd have been brave if he was honest and said he was Gay and not by hiding it under the Bi tagline...

You are an idiot. There are many of us bisexuals out there thank you very much. It is completely hypocritical for gay people to complain about homophobia and then whine about bisexuals. When people say "make your mind" up it is hilarious. I thought being gay wasn't a choice? :roll eyes: Contradictory and unfair.

The LGBT community has enough trouble without turning on each other. I just hope that Tom gets left alone now. Who cares what he does in his private life? He seems like a lovely lad who has been through so much. Must have been hard for him to reveal this, but good on him

Have to laugh at the "we knew it" brigade. You didn't know, you suspected. Now you know

He has said that some members of his family are not happy with him coming out and think he should have kept it secret. He no doubt has advisers telling him the same thing, and the elderly heterosexual men who run British sports of all types, probably ready to add their disapproval.

This lad has had sneering and speculation about him since he was about 14. he takes part in a sport where he is undressed and people have been leering at him for years He got bullied at school (we don''t know why) but this might have a bearing on how he handles this now.

He has taken the risk of upsetting some family members, of possibly losing some "fans" and sponsorship deals, and I'd say that is brave: he is a bigger man than those professional footballers who stay in the closet forever, and sportsmen who announce they are gay the week they retire.

I really hope that he finds happiness and contentment, after all that has happened to him in his young life - not just losing his dad, but internet bullying as well, he deserves to be happy.

I don't think I would have had the courage at 19 that he has shown

You just have to look at their reactions and body language. You're right, it's not proof, but if that lad is heterosexual I'm the Queen of Sheba”

But wasn't that the same interview where the interviewer showed him a manip of him and Louis in a compromising position. You could see how uncomfortable that was. And it was Niall not liam that asked if he liked girls which i am pretty sure if he was gay that comment would NOT have been made even as a joke. All five of them would have media trained to the hilt to keep that off the menu!

I don't know whether he is gay or straight but he must get pretty fed up of interviewers always asking him about girls. None of the other guys get the same treatment and he has said several times that the majority of the girls he is linked with are friends and not girl friends but it seems every time he is spotted with a girl it is a full on romance

Where did I say that ? Toms announcement is just one in a long list of celebs who come out as Bi instead of Gay as its less harmful on their careers . Duncan from Blue recently said he was actually Gay and never Bi ...I work in an industry where everyone knows Jessie J is full on Lesbian but is still saying shes Bi to further her career....

This is offensive to gay people as what they're saying is that its not ok to be gay but maybe ok to be Bi .

Daley will do a Duncan at some point and say actually I've always been gay ...yawn

For all those who are saying hes Bi .....if he is why then has he never had a girlfriend ....it seems odd his first relationship is with a man as opposed to a woman which with the pressure of society would naturally be a woman.

Hes gay and every gay man knows it.....lets see what happens in time.

You should be as offended by his use of Bisexuality to hid his homsexuality as I am ...you seem too stupid to understand this .

I made my point to you in another thread. And I'd hate to know someone like you in real life. I can only imagine the damage you must cause with your narrow minded offensive comments. As if some people don't struggle enough with their sexuality there's you to twist the knife. Keep it classy.

As we don't know Tom Daley personally we cannot say for certain he is not bisexual.

Unlike a lot of sportsmen, he comes across to me as a lad who is a bit unsure of himself, and doesn't have a great deal of self-confidence. It might be that he does find girls attractive. Twice in the video he says of his male partner "he makes me feel safe". That suggests to me that he lacks confidence. He has had girlfriends, but never anything serious.

I have to say again, at 19 and with more years of his career to go than he has already had, hopefully, he has been more open than so many closeted footballers, so today he has done something personally brave. He isn't a boastful type, and you can see in the video he wasn't entirely comfortable making it. But he did.

I cannot understand the bad feeling towards him. He is a likeable lad, he has never done anyone any harm, and he has never bad-mouthed gay men, unlike some politicians and clergyman who have for professional reasons been anti-gay till they have been "outed" by the press

Tom Daley is a great role model. Most of us who are gay men gave always 'known' he was gay. I'm pleased that he is happier than ever in his life: when I was his age no star significant, attractive or popular was out. There were seemingly only old guys we guessed were gay and they were unhappy of lonely or bitter, or like Joe Orton murdered, or drug addicted or whatever. Imagine growing up with all that to look forward to.

Tom is happy, attractive and successful. Just by saying this he is changing young lives. Good for him!

I agree, duncann, and I just hope those members of his family who are unhappy, or embarrassed, soon realise that he is the same Tom they have known all his life, and love him for himself, regardless of who he falls in love with. I am also hoping that ordinary people on internet sites do not give him a rough time. He has had a lot of abuse, for no good reason, and nobody of his age should have had to put up with that.

Yet he willing had sex with a female and fathered a child. Weird. Perhaps he identifies with being gay NOW. Some people take a while to work it all out. It's isn't a race.

Exactly. I am bisexual but it took me a while to realise I liked girls as well as boys. I also have some bisexual friends who pretending to be gay when they were with gay friends because they worried they would be excluded. People who identify as bisexual shouldn't have to face bigotry from other people in the LGBT community. It is hypocritical and can have a really bad affect

Sounds to me like this relationship took Tom by surprise and that he is still kinda figuring himself out. He never said the words bisexual or gay but he said he still fancies women. Good luck to him either way

Joey comes across as more gay tbh. His answers in magazine interviews about relationships are quite telling. Plus he's really camp.

Not a hope. Definitely straight, if very camp.

Married with 2 kids, and had affair with Kristina, the Russian dancer from Strictly.

Not even a hint.
