To whom is bisexual 'the acceptable face' though?

Homophobes hate any homosexuality, regardless of whether the person is bi or gay

Gay people tend to often be very distrusting of and patronising towards those who call themselves bisexual

i don't like how people have to be labelled 'gay' or 'bi' or 'straight', as if as soon as they are labelled 'gay' there's no way they can go 'bi' or 'straight' - everyone has the ability to love anyone they want, I think these restrictions and labels are worrying, but also i understand why they exist. It just saddens me.

heard Duncan is writing a book '50 shades of blue' - don't know if it is true or not, but if he is - that would be a fun read. Apparently he is writing it with Lee

He'll probably never come out. The only thing bigger than his shoe size is his ego.

Sorry but how do you know enough about anyone else to state as fact what their sexuality is?
I really don't mean to be rude but it seems like so many posters know more about the celebs' inclinations than they do themselves!
Again - no offence intended - you might well know him personally - or even BE him

If true, why would he be so open about his other problems but not his sexuality?

Some celebs basically dig themselves holes so deep they then find it very hard to climb out of, hence they dig deeper or break down. It's sad.

Not saying Thorpe's issue is that (it could be any number of things related to the human condition) but the BBC interview about him the other night with its nannying one-track theme of 'he can't cope because of the rigours of being a top performer' seemed to be meant to convince us his entire issue could only be one-dimensional (related to his career). The guy's been retired 7 years!

They don't know, hence my issues with this thread. A lot of the reasons are hilariously delusional too. I know what it is like, I am bisexual and constantly used to try and convince myself that hot girls were gay or bi. But thankfully I grew out of it.

People here seem to doubt any hetero relationships and then believe any "rumours" they read on the internet, i.e a complete stranger calling someone gay. I don't doubt any celebrities heterosexuality unless here is good reason. The only one mentioned in this thread being Luke Evans, who said he was gay. The rest is just funny/ sad really

Stories now coming out about PSH's identity conflicts.

Though if you had an ear to the grapevine years ago, this is not new news.

No he hasn't been retired 7 years, in fact he wanted to swim at the 2012 Olympics and trained for at least a year before the Australian nationals that were used to select their team. Unfortunately he didn't make the cut.

Would not surprise me in the slightest if Ian Thorpe's depression is at least in part down to an inability to accept he is gay

If he's straight, he's the campest straight guy alive

David Emmanuel is far camper and people accept him as straight, and rightly so. Probably because he isn't good looking enough so they don't care.

Well partly right, he did professionally retire 7 years ago and was out for 4 years.

I still don't think the media can safely say his issues must be about competing. There could be any number of things going on with him.

The PSH story gets murkier by the hour with backtracking and denials. What a mess Hollywood is.

No idea, but the argument (not that I agree with it) seems to be that someone who comes out as gay would lose female fans, but they wont if they're bi.

Nah, not 'partly right', completely right. You said he'd 'been retired 7 years'. That's not the same as him having retired 7 years ago and subsequently returned to competition.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't be so pedantic, but you were using it to imply that so many years had passed since he was in competition that it couldn't be a factor in whatever is troubling him right now. I don't know if it is or not, but the last time I remember him being in competition was March 2012 i.e. less than 2 years ago. Quite different from 7 years, isn't it?

Exactly. I would never say those of us who are bisexual have it worse but we have to deal with homophobes as well as shockingly hypocritical and narrow minded gay people.

As for PSH, it is a ridiculous claim by a notoriously scummy newspaper. No wonder his friend, who is married with 4 kids, wants to sue. It's in really poor taste. Nothing wrong with being gay, but saying his friend said they were lovers when he never did to get a story? Scummy. Feel bad for his family and PSH's family, it's insulting

I corrected myself that he had been out 7 years to 4 but bow to your greater wisdom on all things Thorpedo. He did take a longer break out than he spent back in the game.

I don't think his problems can be certifiably pinned on competing or lack of, I'm throwing the net wider than the BBC did and not assuming (as other posters here) his issues are about his orientation/identity or just competing.

Here's hoping all posters can take time out of their busy schedules to comment on the affrontery and outrage of the Liz Hurley and Bill Clinton accusations.

I'm going to assume we're all rushing over there right now to demand such ludicrous speculation stops dead.
