Looking at Pointless, highest rating for a non-repeat on BBC1 is on 11th November 2011 with 3.28m, the highest if you include the repeats is on 23rd December 2011 with 4.4m. Lowest rating (again, not including repeats) on BBC1 is 1.79m on 25th May 2012. On BBC2, lowest is on 16th April 2010 with 735k, and highest is on 1st December 2010 with 2.32m.
So, interesting comparison there.
Also, the semi-final result for the third semi final this year (8th May), was the third lowest rated BGT episode ever.
The consolidated 5-minute breakdown for the BGT 2009 final is interesting:
21:30 15.29m (60.85%)
21:35 17.67m (66.88%)
21:40 16.40m (64.31%)
21:45 18.01m (68.04%)
21:50 19.97m (71.62%)
21:55 19.58m (70.77%)”

Thanks a lot for this - where did you find the info?
The Chase had some really rotten ratings in its first year and has definitely been a slow burner for them, as all the biggest hits tend to be. Pointless had time to build up on BBC2 and by the time it transferred to BBC1 it was already a strong hit.
Easy to forget just ho high some of those peaks have been - BGT 2009 was so close to 20 million! I don't think I've seen the consolidated peaks before and they make interesting reading. I gather the 2011 and 2012 ones don't include +1 - for BGT 2012 that would add another 0.7-0.8m looking at the overnights, so putting it in line with 2010.
Looking ahead I suspect this year's X Factor Final will peak at around 12m and average about 10m - there's a chance the average might miss 10m in the overnights which would be a terrible result, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if it happened.
BGT on the other hand had a good year and I think positive momentum from that should get them a good launch number next year. After that it'll depend on the quality of the series but after this year I see no reason why it can't do very well. It has an advantage over the other shows in that it is unique as there are no other variety shows, and it has a pretty short run, so has some of the benefits that I'm A Celebrity also enjoys.
Speaking of which, that's a pretty encouraging start for IAC. ITV have been wise in not overexposing it and it is reaping the rewards now. I guess it'll be around 9-9.5m tonight and I think it'll have another good year. Like Strictly it has experienced a new lease of life in the last couple of years after a bit of a slowdown, and it is a huge deal for ITV.
