Emmerdale is losing its sparkle that I agree, and yes before long a six million first showing will be the norm for all prime time soaps and I can see that happening within the next year.

Ratings for all terrestrial channels have dramatically declined since 2005 and the soaps in particular have been hit harder as they had further to fall. Within five years I expect Emmerdale back in daytime and EE and Corrie clinging on for dear life in prime time.

And yet still declining, the end of October and still no 8 million, what the hell is Newman doing to stop the rot? nothing it appears and still the mess continues. If it fails to be top dog on Christmas Day then she will have problems.

Lets hope the new overall boss kicks her ass to the kerb and gets someone who actually has fresh ideas and the intelligence to stop the rot.

Surprised Eastenders still hasnt got over 8million this Autumn. During the summer people were saying it was because of BBQs but last two months it must be because of bad quality because the weather isnt good.

You sound obsessed with her performance and Eastenders's ratings. You really need to get another hobby.

Eastenders was unlucky the last couple years a lot of its most loved characters like Peggy Mitchell, Pat, Dot Cotton and Stacey left. They were part of the furniture of the show, the first three anyway, and new characters who have come in arent so loved by audiences. Itd be like Coro St. without Ken and Deidre, the fans who love them would get annoyed and potentially switch off. Sharon Watts is back but her return didnt do anything for the ratings.

Well if does not hit 8 million before the end of October then I have lost a fifty quid bet, if it had not been due to the money aspect then I'd not care a jot.

Anyway if the show or any BBC production is not performing as it should then I have every right to question the production values, team, scripts and acting. After all like 20 odd million others fund this via the license fee hence I like everyone else has a vested interest in how the BBC spends its funding and that it is maximised to ensure top quality production.

Is Daybreak such a damaged brand name that perhaps it would have been better to change the title after the relaunch? Let BBC Breakfast do the news and Daybreak be a magazine show.

I have 980k but that seems like a massive drop from last week.

Another relaunch is going to be hugely humiliating for ITV, they might as well bring back Chiles and Bleakley..It should be looking at a totally different type of programme in the early morning.

Overnights are increasingly irrelevant, as I have pointed out once or twice.

And especially for BBC shows attracting a younger, more mobile, more upmarket audience than ones pitched at ITV's grannies and dole-dossers.



Seriously, I would think EE will be back at 9m levels soon as winter sets in, and touching 10m now and then by Christmas.

Split in to two parts on Christmas night, hopefully, it will do fine. I think a 2nd half of EE and The Royles will perform admirably against Downton.

If I had a large sum of money and were willing to bet it, I'd certainly wager that a relaunch of The Big Breakfast on ITV would pull in more than Daybreak. And would probably be on the same level budget wise, or perhaps even lower. The Big Breakfast was of course axed, but these are different times. At its worst it was probably better than half of the stuff we get fed now. I suspect a lot of its young audience who are now in their 30s/40s would be feeling very nostalgic and receptive to something alternative and loud in the morning.
Am I right in saying that ITV own the rights to The Big Breakfast?

Daybreak, GMTV, that whole operation is dead. They need a completely different direction now.
