Makes sense. The viewers that care about genuine talent stopped voting. It's one thing to watch it as a piece of fluff on a Saturday night when there's literally nothing else of note on apart from Strictly, but spending hard earned cash saving someone only to watch Louis Walsh do a u-turn and somehow justify keeping some shite joke of a singer in instead is just too much of a kick in the face.

A talent contest where the most talented contestants leave first is flawed to such an extent it's probably FUBAR.

I don't think Rylan is the problem, he has no chance of winning and everyone knows it. The only reason he made it through this week is the Gary jibe.

The problem is Christopher. Week after week he is useless and yet people continue to vote for him. He hasn't been in the bottom 2 yet and is showing no signs of landing there either and everyone on the show is clearly terrified of the fairly plausible idea of him winning! I've no idea why people are voting for him but they are and the producers are clearly bricking it.

I feel like we have had this discussion many times over, if only this really was the moment when X-Factor jumped the shark, and the moment when viewers would switch off in their droves.

Despite this years ratings being down about 20%, its ratings are still far too high, if you think that this kind of thing, means viewers switch off.

I have long since given up expecting rational behaviour from X-Factor viewers, and even more so X-Factor voters.

If viewers switched off every time this happened, the show would have alot less viewers than it is now.

Should all this talk not be in X Factor forum?

Well there's the problem.

One thing is for certain though - this will send a clear message to the producers that people clearly aren't a fan of stripping songs back every week and modernizing everything, as the contestants that seem most likely to win are your more typical 'X Factor acts' and not the cool, trendy acts that the producers have been pushing this year that clearly just do not connect with the audience at home.

If Ryland the joke act was eliminated 7 weeks ago like he shouldve been, one of the favourites wouldnt have been eliminated tonight. Also it's the shows own fault for making Chris Maloney, the terrible shaking karaoke singer, a nominee as a wildcard act and plugging him so much more than the other wildcard acts so he got the votes. I bet all these controversial decisions wont do the ratings any good, it must be the worst final 5 in the history of the show and viewers hate it this season. Has anyone come across anyone else saying they enjoy XFactor anymore? Even Roscoe Barnes and James J, the most fanatical XF followers, said either he or all his friends hate the show these days.

Why would they be bricking it? I can't remember the last genuine star to win X Factor. They nearly all flop and find their contract is terminated before too long, so if this Chris guy was to follow the same path, it'd be nothing new.

Little Mix (last year's winners) have got off to a pretty promising start. Their first single (excluding the winner's single) went straight to #1 back in August despite them being the first winners since Shayne Ward to launch without an X Factor performance. Obviously very early days but the signs are good.

They're bricking it because everyone on the show hates him (except his mentor Gary Barlow and even he doesn't seem too keen!) and he goes completely against the kind of artists they've been pushing on the show this year. I know the track record for winners hasn't been great but at least you can say the likes of Matt Cardle are talented and were deserving winners. That really doesn't apply to Chris.

Dancc, I have watched quite a bit of it this year, but a lot of people are saying it's coming to the end of its life. I went to the pub to watch the Grand Prix and not a single person asked to have TXF on. I'd be more interested in the ratings for Hamilton's win than TXF.
Yet to be fair I do applaud the decision to use singer/songwriters this year.

I think that knowledge would be more than enough for some people to keep voting for him-just to make it awkward for the XF hierarchy.
Even when 18 million were watching the final, the vast majority lost interest in the winner 5 minutes after the result.

The main fear for ITV now is if TXF falls even more next year, what can they replace it with as a lot of their new commissions have stiffed in the last few years. Why not, if Cowell decides to pull the plug next year( as has been rumoured), revive Stars in Their Eyes, a consistent success?

Perhaps, but what goes on within programmes will, inevitably affect ratings. XF has lost three million or more so discussion will be about why that is happening-which I think is valid.

And just dry figures would make this thread very boring imo.

Maybe 'That Dog Can Dance !' will be a breakout hit, or Celebrity Splash ?

Actually I'm looking forward to seeing what comes along post XF. They certainly need some big ideas for some new big Saturday night commissions.

On a ratings related note, ITV are probably pretty cheesed off about X Factor tonight as well, as the result will have given Xtra Factor a massive boost, and in turn dented I'm A Celebrity, possibly quite significantly. Doubt they'll be too happy.

I doubt it - Rylan is no different to the Wagners and Jedwards of the past. They all outstay their welcome and better acts go first as a result. These shows also can't win it seems when it comes to so called joke acts (and Strictly's no different) - people always complain they're there at the expense of more talented people, but without them people complain such shows take themselves too seriously. It's always the same old story too - they last just that little bit too long, but usually make their exit before the final.


Absolutely agree. Yes, Rylan should have gone in week one but in the last sing off with Kye I'd say it was the right decision to save him as Kye was dull and forgettable in every sense.

If we wanted, we could make a very tenuous link between anything in a show and how it might effect ratings. Nothing discussed tonight about X Factor should be in this thread IMO.

ITV do need to seriously start thinking as both DOI and TXF are falling down the ratings. Stars was a respected brand and I think people would watch again as karaoke is a popular pastime. What they need to avoid is Z list celeb shows as, apart from IAC, most of these have flopped in recent years.

Shock results have happened before and will happen again; if not in The X Factor than in The Voice or whatever show follows it. That's what happens when the public vote is involved. Tonight wasn't farcical and certainly wasn't predictable - unlike week one's sing off!

And Xtra Factor's rating was seriously hurt by I'm A Celebrity... as it has been every other year - nothing else. I wonder if the shock result will see a boost for it tonight; especially if people are getting sick of Helen Flanagan.

As for X Factor in general - they're just going through the motions this year IMO; they're trying to lay off the twists and just get to the end of the series without isolating any more viewers and then they'll try yet another revamp for next year.

X-Factor USA seems to be a gamble that is not paying off for Simon Cowell.

X-Factor USA is not doing very well at the moment, and may not survive past its next season, meanwhile its left X-Factor UK baron of its big name judges, namely Simon Cowell, and Cheryl Cole, which appears not to have been the publicity stunt I originally thought it was.

The X-Factor UK judging line up, is unimpressive, ive said that ever since I saw the line, I didnt need to watch it to know a member of Take That, and a woman with a stupid name, from a rap outfit, I had not heard of (the woman not the rap outfit), was not going to be a good judging line up.

Stars in their Eyes is a pretty dated brand which would struggle to bring in anything like the numbers The X Factor is even getting today. They would be mad to replace The X Factor with it.

What ITV kind of need is Dancing on Ice to fail. That way they can move The X Factor to a January start and get Cowell back and Britain's Got Talent running Sept - Oct, with I'm a Celeb propping up Saturday nights in November (launching and finishing on Saturday with two-hour shows, then 90 minute live trial/evictions on the middle Saturdays). They could even begin airing X Factor auditions in November, then air Boot Camp and judges houses over Christmas and kick off the live shows in January so they're done by Easter.

Actually you're talking a fair bit of sense. The Scofe is in a fair bit of trouble now and what's to say he could be gone if he's sued. TXF still is a profitable brand and I think running it in January is a good idea, esp if ITV persuade Shezza to go back.
IAC has proven itself as a durable hit, too.OK it's not my bag, but 8.5 million people can't be wrong.

Its lost a huge viewership from 2010 which is what I meant.

This thread is all about making comparisons so its hard to ignore talking about what is going on that causes people to stop or start watching.

And ratings come out once a day, not on the hour-sometimes they can be discussed away in twenty minutes-what do we do then?
