good to see a EastEnders top 8 million, Panorama on the other hand, oops”

I probably shouldn't be too surprised, though. That special they did with Fry did really well. And Panorama massively underperformed last night, so there was more viewers around specifically at that 8:30 junction than there normally will be.

Let's see where it settles over the next few weeks. TGS didn't exactly disgrace itself as one might have expected it to drop more than 200k in the circumstances, so on that score I feel I was right. There should be room for both programmes in that slot as they aren't really offering the same thing.”

Stephen Fry won and quite considerably but this is no surprise as the show featured Stephen Fry and he is a popular personality. Also a show on Channel 5 will rate less as it's on Channel 5. Let's see how this pans out but I can't see TGS ever beating the Gadget Man, as long as it stays at its usual levels it's fine.

Quite right.

No shame in being beaten by a national treasure, anyway. C4's show is about Fry more than it is about gadgets.

Another early sign of Christmas is next weeks Radio Times is out on Monday rather than Tuesday, will be coming out thick and fast after that.

How's Arrow doing on Sky 1?

Also, no Sky 1 top ten in last week's officials, which makes the 'others' top 30 pretty meaningless.

That's come round quick. Let the fantasy scheduling commence!

(actually, it started in June. But now it's officially permitted, nay encouraged!)

And with Downton in the mix, even spoilsport itvistas can join in the fun.

I've only just noticed The Walking Dead hit a new all-time high audience for FX in the UK for Episode 4 of Season 3:

THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 3 (FRI 9 NOV 2200) 1,124,000
THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 3 (FRI 9 NOV 2300) 95,000
THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 3 (FRI 9 NOV TOTAL) 1,219,000

Beating the previous high set by the season premiere which had:

THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 3 (FRI 19 OCT 2200) 1,016,000
THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 3 (FRI 19 OCT 2300) 36,000
THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 3 (FRI 19 OCT TOTAL) 1,052,000

It's been a good season. Interestingly the two main stars Andrew Lincoln and David Morrissey are Brits playing Americans.

Homeland has three of its main characters Brody, Quinn and Estes all Americans played by Brits.

Arrow has two Brits in the principal cast, Colin Salmon playing a Brit and Paul Blackthorne as an American cop.

Thanks rzt, that is a cracking list of ratings. Lots to comment on

Brilliant for the tea-time quiz shows, still rising as we go further into the darker evenings. I believe both saw series highs yesterday. For two shows of the same genre to be hitting over 3m in this slot at the same time is pretty amazing. I really hope we get a snow day before the new episodes finish, so we can see just how high they can go.

Story of two halves for BBC last night. Regional News and The One Show did well, up on its ratings of late, as did Eastenders, which has struggled to hit that 8m level this Autumn. Unfortunately the BBC3 rating did very poorly by Monday standards with just 370k. So a slight drop week-on-week in Eastenders total combined viewership. Panorama and Miracles of Nature provided some very poor ratings after 8:30pm.

No sign of any increase in the figures here then, maybe even a slight drop.

A decent night all round for ITV. Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Celeb all posting strong numbers. Celeb in particular has really impressed in the ratings this year, what with every other big hitter falling year-on-year.

A mixed night for Channel 4. Hollyoaks posted a good number for a change and the new Gadget Man show 8:30pm has really done well there. I think it benefits from taking the younger Eastenders viewers at 8:30pm who don't normally watch Corrie. It has probably taken away those Eastenders viewers that would otherwise switch to C5 to see the 2nd half of their Gadget Show. [EDIT - Gadget Man has taken away some 200k 8:30pm viewers from Only Connect as well]. 999 was hit very hard at 9pm by Celeb and the awful Full English has completely tanked now.

Pleased to see Neighbours well above 1m yesterday for the tea-time showing, especially with the BBC/ITV gameshows both being over 3million. Home & Away not taking any extra viewers from the lead-in though. The Gadget show is going to struggle in that slot now with C4 directly competing. Too late to do anything at short notice but I think if they want to keep it in this slot, best to avoid the weeks when C4 are airing their Gadget Man show.

Text Santa is on Friday 21st this year, and no I don't think the new Poirot/Marples are due until next year.

Wild At Heart has a 2 hour special (its last ever episode).

I knew they were making/have made at least 3 new Marples and that they are making sooner or later new Poirots didn't know if any were ready yet.

According to Barb's figures published yesterday, BBC Four is now arguably more popular than BBC Three. Three BBC Four shows had more viewers than the most popular BBC Three show. I'm pretty sure that it was supposed to be the other way around when those channels were launched.

If that trend continues, I wonder how it will influence the future of these two channels.

I hope the BBC won't tweak too much with BBC Four schedules to surf on that positive tend and that they will instead try to stop dumbing down BBC Thee.

Just looking through Digiguide at the schedules for the next few weeks leading upto Christmas and BBC1 in some key slots looks hopelessly thin. It looks as if they've just run out of money at the end of the year!

The next three Monday's are filled with New Tricks repeats; Wednesday has Goodnight Britain, War on Britain's Roads and Traffic Cops; Thursday has Goodnight Britain; Who Do You Think You Are? and Britain's Hidden Housing Crisis.

Really quite poor for what used to be a time chock-a-block full of treats to get you through what is of course the darkest time of the year.

Sunday nights are not hugely better, Crickley Hall was originally meant for Halloween. And Friday after HIGNFY looks like filler after Me and Mrs Smith is done too (John Bishop's Big Year for two weeks which sounds more suited for Christmas then it's Live at the Apollo).

The schedule is crying out for Ripper Street quite frankly. Terrible scheduling.

I agree, BBC2 aren't much better either, they should be taking advantage of this by showing some of the promising drama they've got available. From the excellent drama trailer that was released a couple of months ago, only Parade's End and The Hour have aired. They also seem to be burning off the last episode of The Hour, it's on both Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th.

Channel 5 Final Schedules w/c 8th December

The Expendables (2010) premieres Sunday 9th December at 9pm
Alternative screening: Wednesday 12th December 10pm

They've also snatched the rights to a couple more titles normally shown on other channels with Mr & Mrs Smith (Channel 4) and Constantine (ITV) showing on December 10 and December 13 respectively.

Elsewhere, classic laughs with Tommy Cooper's 1974 Christmas Special (Saturday 8th December, 8.55pm) providing an unlikely lead-in for their second consecutive week of live international boxing. I don't think they've shown this one before, last year they showed the one from 1973.

Not much else to report apart from that. New Irish drama import Jack Taylor won't be launching this week after all, which I think is a damn shame as the competition looks quiet and they could have capitalised on that. Perhaps the last episode airing on Xmas Eve wasn't ideal, assuming the original plan was to run it on Mondays. Maybe they'll strip it over three consecutive nights instead at some point in December.

Good also to see BBC Breakfast & Daybreak ratings. Viewership isn't too bad for Daybreak, but their percentage is disappointing. I would like hopefully for them to get up to at least 20% for 2013 to at least keep its future on ITV safe.

Interesting thought there, as no one is winning the jackpot maybe more people are deciding to tune in to see if anyone can win that huge jackpot.

Take Me Out has another series I believe in the winter and I think we're all agreed it hasn't held up as well as we thought it would against Strictly. The question is though whether ITV have anything that would rate better now Harry Hill has gone. I still think considering how well movies do on C4 and C5 in the run up to Christmas on Sundays that ITV's best bet on Saturdays might be a season of family movies in the early evening slot.”

Something that could be used as an X Factor lead-in as it is struggling a bit. They have Corrie on the Sunday on 2nd December I believe, so that'll be used as a lead-in. I think Surprise, Surprise will do much better in the spring as if they plug it before BGT in April, it'll be up against The Voice.
