I wouldn't say the scheduling would be the issue as in 2008, BGT could get 11m for a semi-final running from 9-10:30, but the fact quite a bit of time is wasted. They could slot in a 'group performance' similar to what is done on XF or at least something which'll pull in decent audiences. The five-minute peak for the final has sort of gone down each year since 2009. In 2010 it was 14.14m (57.3%) (nearer to 15m with HD included), in 2011 it was 14.05m (55.35%), 14.4m including +1, and this year it was 13.78m (52.7%), 14.49m (55.4%) including +1 (quite a high +1 audience).

Considering each performance show is 90 minutes long, if they scheduled it at 6:30 running to 8, then half an hour later they had the 30 minute results show, would that work (then finishing at 9)? This year it was having below 9m for the semi-finals, same for XF this year for most of the series, but it managed to grow upon the final. Strictly was beating XF quite a lot last year, but its peak of 13.3m (51.4%) was well down on XF's peak of 15.3m (49.5%). I don't have a clue as to what it'll peak at this year, at this rate I think we'll be seeing something similar to BGT's final rating. One Direction, however (pains me to say this), their appearance last year pushed the show ahead a bit, at the end of the series it was the second highest rated episode (that results show), first being the second part of the final, even beating the first part of it. Including HD, it had 13.25m in the consolidated's, the final having 13.46m. The first part of the final wasn't even the highest rated Saturday of the series (which turned out to be the show with the 'power cut' and starting 15 minutes late, with 12.28m).

If we knock off 10% of last years final (both shows), we'd be seeing:

9.82m (37.4%) and a peak of 10.56m (39.04%)
11.79m (40.7%) and a peak of 13.74m (44.51%)”

ITV News is on at 6.30, there is no way that BGT would air then on a weeknight near summer as the vieing would go down at least 2 million.

I don't know why we don't hear that BGT is in crisis every day in May/June perhaps because it doens't really have Strictly to compare to. Or maybe because the Susan Boyle year was a one off, whereas in X Factor Series 7 achieved the same ratings as Series 6 so not a one off. Plus there is probably a consensus that if they showed it 8.30-10pm (or 9-10.30pm) each night with no seperate results show it would probably do better. However ITV have now decided to make it 2 hours a night, to get more revenue and believe stripping Corrie at 9pm makes an event out of it and improves the whole schedule.

The SuBo year was kind of a one-off yeah and was back when the live shows were only 90 mins per night and aired from 8:30pm or 9pm. BGT's ratings have been pretty flat for 3 years now which is why we don't hear about a ratings 'crisis'.

Personally I'd schedule the live shows from 7:30-9:30pm each night if they insist on running for 2 hours per night. One of the semifinals this year ran as one longer show and it worked pretty well. It would mean the results portion would rate quite a lot higher than it currently does and Corrie (or whatever they run at 9:30pm) would still do really well as the lead-in would be strong and there's less chance of viewers switching to other channels halfway through the hour.

As predicted by a few of us, BBC One have recommissioned The Paradise:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/news/...y-bbc-one.html

Surprised they've done so before the first series ends, but it's been very stable so I don't suppose there's much risk attached to it. They'll at least be pleased to have something returning from the big batch of new drama they've been rolling out. They've not been going too well otherwise.

Coronation Street with 9m and almost a 40% share, you can tell the clocks have gone back

Emmerdale is still going strong with almost 8m tuning in, I'd have expected it to drop off a bit since the anniversary week by now.

EastEnders rating is ok but the share is a bit poor. No Paul O'Grady dogs opposite it, so I don't know what the excuse is now.

Danny Cohen describes it as the biggest drama this autumn but its hardly been a runaway success for BBC1. I would have expected higher audiences for this show. The audience figures are not far from the mediocre response to Upstairs Downstairs yet it was axed quite quickly. I feel that audiences may have had enough by the first series, series two will have to work harder in order to keep the viewers on board.

It's not really been noticed critically either, unlike some lower rated stuff like Good Cop.

P.S. Looked like The Voice and Dancing with the Stars benefitted from the hurricane last night:

Nice! Do they do this every year or is it new for this series?

Presumably the start up costs were such that unless it totally tanked it was always gonna get a second run.

It was bad, script writers, Green and a few other production team members deserve the sack. Only continuing dramas i watch are Holby City/Casualty and EE but with the former even when they go through a bad patch i know things do eventually improve.

And can i say thanks to Paul O'Gradys dogs or lack off as it has ended EE got over 8 million and i won the bet with my mate, poor share though for the slot.

Incredible game on Sky Sports 2 at the moment, I expect to see a big peak for League Cup standards.

I don't have the figure; an episode may make the BARB top 10 for the channel when it's released a week on Monday, if it isn't squeezed out by high-rating sport.

Veering off-topic, I noticed that Cheers is being shown in high definition on ITV4 HD, presumably a remastered version. In case anyone's interested, SciFi starts showing the remastered HD series 1 of Star Trek: TNG next Monday.

55.2m adults 18-49 watching US TV between 8pm and 10pm last night. Around 10m higher than usual for the time.

Some of the writers have gone back with Kirkwood,Green doesn't work at EastEnders now and Kathleen Beddles has also left EastEnders for Hollyoaks with Kirkwood.

Kathleen stated on Twitter last week that what you see on screen is her's and Kirkwoods stuff.

Lorraines full work will begin at xmas and only slight things you see is her work (like the exits of Anthony moon back in August and Christian leaving in November)

This is a video showing the new knockout stage of The Voice US: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdxuL8MpBCs

This should be brought over to the UK version as well. During Voice UK series 1 there were 4 auditions shows, 2 battle shows and 6 weeks of live shows. Next series, I think they should do 6 auditions, 2 battle, 2 knockout and 3 weeks of live shows.

In series 1, each coach put 5 contestants to live rounds. In series 2, I think each coach should have just 2 contestants in live rounds. First show could have 8 contestants and bottom 2 get eliminiated after public vote is in, second week's live show has 6 contestants and bottom 2 get eliminated and final live show has 4 contestants. This means the the lower rating live shows stage will be shorter but also it's better this way cos all of the contestants from all the coaches get to compete against each other from the first live show. In the first series this only happened from the semi. I think series 2 can end up being even more popular than series 1 [9.2million average, most successful new entertainment show on BBC1 in over a decade] if the Beeb make the right changes to the format.

You sure? Still tweeting and retweeting about it and still links to it in his bio.

Is that why its still unwatchable then. Good to know that that kind of stuff isn't Lorraine's vision. I haven't been able to get through 10 mins unfortunately.

Don't think it was noted yesterday, but The Chase had 3.29m including +1 on Monday, a new record high I think for a non-celebrity edition.

I wonder if we don't hear about BGT being in crisis so much because there is more advertising revenue to play for in the autumn and winter than in late spring. It's prime advertising time for ITV
