Impressive, you might think. But dig a little deeper and it really hits home just how big a hit it is for a channel of FX's size.

Consider that FX only had 3.7m tune in for at least three consecutive minutes across that entire week of broadcasting. That means at least 1 in 4 of all FX viewers sat down for a whole episode of The Walking Dead. Find me an example of engagement rate as high as that and I'd be amazed !”

The Walking Dead is FX's biggest show here. The reason why I think it works for them and not Channel 5 is that it just takes so long to turn up on Channel 5. Plus all of the people that want to see it watch on FX making the Channel 5 showing pointless.

I doubt Monroe would have rated any better given that [1] James Nesbitt is hardly a name that gets bums on seats and [2] the audience can see the show for what it is, i.e. House-lite.

That Banks rating isn't that 'good' at all. It's disappointing. ITV needs a better rating drama than that to distract from the disasters of Monroe and Homefront. It might help if their commissioners were capable of showing a bit more imagination ...

Yep it's because it's so close to the US broadcast. It's a cult show and those fansboys and girls will tune into FX (like me).

The viewers on Channel Five are probably channel surfers who come across it and then watch the next season on FX.

I am impressed with FX, watching it's progression has been interesting. Wasn't it once just packed full of repeats?

I think you mean The Following with Kevin Bacon?
The River is on scyfy. Sky Atlantic have picked up The Following.

Look around both BBC and ITV are down. Palin would have been getting 6-7 million 4 years ago. Would you say his rating last night was brillaint, no, it was satisfactory.

You could say that about NCIS, to be fair, and that is one of C5's best performers. Not everyone can get FX as it's a premium pay channel not even available on basic satellite or cable packages. C5 reaches about 8 or 9 times as many people.

So it's definitely worth doing a FTA showing of TWD. It was probably a bit isolated in the schedule last time though and could do with being paired with another US import next year.

Brazil is boring thats why its low, Palin's past travel programmes were interesting, this isn't.

It's not a premium channel on Sky. It's part of the cheapest starter package. So with 10.3m households it reaches about 40% of the UK. C5's reach is 8 or 9 times as many??

It's available as an IPTV channel in TalkTalk's £10 per month 'entertainment boost' on YouView.

And as of this week it's also a linear channel on Sky Go.

DCI Banks got 4.44m including +1 so it wasn't down too much from last week.

Mr & Mrs appears to have beaten Watchdog for the first time too - it got 4.64m (inc +1) which even without +1 should have beaten Watchdog's 4.14m, which looks a bit lower than it normally is.

Corrie got 7.9m (inc +1) - all ratings from Screenwatch.

Dallas averaged 950k with another 61k on +1.

That is awful for Dallas. Surely that's really embarrassing for Channel Five considering all the fuss they made.

Manchester United were playing yesterday. Is that why Itv Coro St. and Watchdog ratings were down?

Dallas is appalling and deserves the ratings it is getting. Good for Mr and Mrs, I know STV were showing a football match last night in place of Watchdog/Palin, may have harmed the ratings a little?

Might get beaten in the officials by three or four US imports on pay TV.

Only a few weeks some were thinking it would beat Mrs Biggs.

Dallas deserves 2.0m+ but it has some opposition, hopefully it will timeshift better. It is my favorite 'new' show since The Good Wife.....I hope to catch up with this week's episode on Friday evening.....

FX really has improved. I forgot that I also watch Falling Skies on it. Some good cult sci-fi shows and also home of NCIS, Dexter and a few other shows. It has a few signature shows and they get their first run in the UK on it.

Shame they didn't continue with Breaking Bad after season one and letting 5USA screw it over!!

As time goes on I do think FTA rights for US shows are becoming less valuable. It's not the nineties anymore. Most people who would want to watch The Walking Dead will have already done so on FX. That's why FTA broadcasters need to be bagging exclusive rights. The idea of a FTA broadcast some months after it was on pay TV seems a little archaic in this day and age.

In other news Netflix UK have the exclusive rights to the fifth season of Breaking Bad which has been made available from today. They've moved relatively quickly in getting it which possibly reflects the demand. That's my viewing sorted for a bit anyway!

It's nice to see it on Netflix (series 5 on today) for a fraction of the price of a pay tv subscription though

Latest figures show that only 15-20% of Smart TV's are connected to the internet.”

It was confirmed on the call that 6.7m Sky homes COULD connect their box to the internet (out of 10.3m total Sky TV homes).

As at 30 September 2012, 1.3m have connected so that is 19% of the 6.7m.

The Walking Dead worldwide rights were acquired by FOX International Channels so Channel 5 wouldn't be able to acquire the UK rights exclusively unless they outbid and I imagine its for life of series rather than a season by season basis. American Horror Story and I think Falling Skies was acquired in the same way.

TBH It was a surprise at the time when Channel 5 acquired FTA rights to TWD but I'm happy they did and they're sticking with it. I still think they should repeat it on 5USA and build the audience.

No you don't.

The FL sells them in separate packages.

And there are 3 separate packages just for the League Cup on its own - 1st picks (exc final), 2nd picks, final.

the second airing window, I agree its almost totally worthless these days, and only exclusive first airing is good enough, and then it should be within so many weeks of the US airing.

HOWEVER it should be noted that NCIS does well for Channel 5, despite having aired already on FX, one expects its the fact its does better in the older demographics. It also repeats very well.

I would not expect to see E4 picking up the second run rights to Arrow anytime soon.

Would quite like to see one of the free to airs, picking up the rights to the Primeval spin-off.
