But the Europe series in 2007 got over 7m viewer, and last year Frozen Planet was managing 8-9m in the 9pm slot, following on from WDYTYA which was only previously getting ~5m, so there is no reason why 6m can't be achievable. And like with Frozen Planet last year, Wednesday 9pm is the best slot for it. It is now an established Documentary/Reality slot all year round (e.g. no drama), so viewers know what to expect. The Apprentice manages 7m+ in the Spring. And ITVare hardly showing more competition this year than last, arguably DCI Banks is down on MM/Football last year. I'd be more suprised if it was under 5m than if it was over 7m. I just think they have probably commissioned it in the wrong year. When Brazil have the World Cup in 2014, and Rio the Olympics in 2016 the subject matter may be more relevant and potentially more people interested in those years

It'll do just fine on a Wednesday night - and any hit in the ratings will be down to Michael Palin not being the be all and end all when it comes to travelogues anymore rather than it airing on Wednesday. I'd argue they're probably to late rather than too early with this though - they should have done it straight off the back of the Olympics.

No, it's not been a big hit - though it has been very consistent ever since the second week. Its very reminiscent of Lark Rise to Candleford (the writers' last BBC series...), if slightly less rose-tinted. Easy to follow and enjoyable enough. I could see it growing for that reason should the BBC decide to stick with it for a second series.

The obvious option might be to try it second time out in it's "rightful home" of Sundays. But that's not easy. There seems to be so much stuff that we consider 'ideal for Sundays' these days, that there aren't really enough Sundays to put them on! Maybe the old Lark Rise slot of 8pm would work - but even then, they have to avoid Q1 when CTM airs and Q4 where ITV rather block off the Sunday slots. So it's a difficult fit.

It's been five years since the last one so they can't expect 7m especially on a different night but it should do decently, wonder how it would have done on Sundays against Downton.

Sons of Anarchy comfortably won the 10pm slot on Tuesday night in the US beating 3 scripted series - Parenthood (1.9), Vegas (1.6) and Private Practice (1.4).

At 8pm the Halloween episode of Pretty Little Liars on ABC Family drew a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 beating The CW's Hart of Dixie by over 100% and quadrupling the 0.3 for Emily Owens on The CW at 9pm. The CW is having a real mixed bag this season. Arrow is a much needed breakout hit to sit alongside The Vampire Diaries but a few other nights are in freefall.

Have a feeling that this may have been considered, but they panicked when they saw how badly Marr was doing and shifted it to Wednesday.

If it gets 5.0m overnight it will have done well, although I would like to see it get more.

Another option for them would have been to have waited for Celeb and gone opposite that as the alternative for folk with more than half a brain cell....

I'd like to think they had more foresight than deciding where to schedule a particular show 6 weeks in advance - i dont those sorts of scheduling decisions are made so close to date of transmission. There's no doubt though that Downton has stopped BBC putting shows on at 9pm. Paradise Road, Palin, Frozen Planet are all traditional BBC Sunday night shows that were shown on weekdays

If only XF would do that sort of schedule. It finishing after 10 is no help for the ratings whatsoever.

For that Millionaire special, considering it's an IAC special, I would predict at least 4m, being on a weeknight.

Maybe when the clocks go back on Sunday, the ratings for XF (in particular) will pick up a bit.

Dallas did well on TNT and will be back for a second series. I think the series is really good and it's a shame more people don't watch in this country.

Apparently it has been rating very well on the barb ratings...it is after all a cable show in the US, not a huge network show like CSI....yes it is still running, I stayed up until 2.30am to watch last night's episode on delay. That's the sign of a true fan

The X Factor might want to cut out a few commercial breaks. Without adverts the 2 hour 20 minute X Factor is only 95 minutes long! I was shocked when I saw that on the ITV Player. No wonder people like to fast forward through the commercials.

That episode was 2 hours with the commercials not 2 hours 20. The 2 hour 20 episode was 113 mins without commercials.

Very strong rating from Watchdog last night, I think that's the highest of this current run. Really does do well in that slot. Disappointing for Michael Palin to drop on the lead-in but that seems like a reasonable rating for him in general; I haven't seen it but it seems like the sort of show that may build via word of mouth.

Over on ITV1, a little odd to see Mr & Mrs increase by 400k on last week despite the considerably lower lead-in and a stronger performing Watchdog. DCI Banks maintained its normal respectable level. Strong rating for Emmerdale.
