It's up on last week, but it's on the same levels as the third and fourth live shows.

Will BGT possibly beat XF in series average for the first time this year?
I don't think there's any doubt is there?

Well, BGT's series average stands at 9.17m (without HD). There are three HD figures missing, without them the HD series average is 10.01m.

Seeing XF is staying around the 8-9m mark, without HD it probably won't beat it.

I think Claudia should have been promoted a long time ago on to the main show, she is naturally funny. Combine her with a comedy male co host rather than Tess, she was capable but that's about all. Both Bruce and Tess should go. I think Steve Jones would present well with Claudia.
I struggle to think of a worse choice than Steve Jones. Maybe Barrowman would be worse.
Steve Jones? Nooooooooo!

Nice man but no personality. Graham Norton, Paul O'Grady or John Barrowman would suit the show.

Wonder if the BBC storm and criticism will dent its normal viewing figures on the BBC One and Two or the public will continue to be unaffected by the politics. Bet they wish the Olympics were starting now.

What's the excuse for the XF leveling this week?

People attending belated firework parties? Rememberance shindigs? Mass outbreak of Entwistle related hysteria?
This week's strategy seems to be to ignore Strictly's 2 million higher peak, which was unthinkable a few series ago, and focus on the fact that X Factor was up slightly, a fact they would have ignored if it was the other way round and Strictly was being beaten by an even greater margin than it used to.

The results show last year:

12.49m (41.87%) , +1: 166k (0.59%)
* peak (exc +1): 14.56m (47.02%)
* peak (inc +1): 14.8m (48%)

If we take 10% off, we get:

11.24m (37.68%), +1: 149k (0.53%)
* peak (exc +1): 13.10m (42.32%)
* peak (inc +1): 13.3m (43.2%)

That seems unlikely still however.

All this X Factor and Strictly talk is dull beyond belief. I think that they're both complete crap and should be replaced with something new and less "celeb"-y. And hey, perhaps something that tickles a brain cell or two.

The BBC may feel there's some ratings value in choosing a new male presenter as a replacement for Brucie, but they should be brave and daring and defy convention and let two women present the show () i.e Tess and Claudia who are doing a competent job presenting the Sunday results show.

Anyway, I don't think any of us in this thread will live long enough to see the day when Brucie retires, not even the teenagers.

When that goes out on Saturday night and has a rating it'll be discussed here. Until then watch the Stricty/X Factor talk continue until Christmas!!!!

I still trust the BBC more than any other broadcasting organisation..I wouldn't touch News International with a barge pole.ie The Sun and Sky they feed out the same trough..I just hope the BBC can get out the quagmire it's found itself in and gain the publics trust, it would be a travesty if these issues were to bring down the worlds most respected broadcaster...what would we have if it did go??

You should try Pointless Celebriies.

Pointless is not afraid to have questions on world politics, science, geography, history, art, literature or natural history.

Yeah let two women present but not Tess! Competent is not enough, I agree two women would challenge the likes of ant and dec but you need chemistry like mel and sue on GBBO, tess is only really famous for Strictly unfortunately and would find it hard to get other work.

Great result for Strictly. Very marginally up on last year's equivalent show (well, not sure if its equivalent in terms of number - but the one between Bonfire Night and Wembley) which is remarkable. There doesn't seem the same sort of media attention as was generated by Russell Grant, but the show has been trending very well regardless.

XF about as expected based on this year's run. I find all of this hoping-against-hope from certain posters that the show is magically going to rebound to 2010 levels a mixture of amusing and annoying!

Wonder if the BBC storm and criticism will dent its normal viewing figures on the BBC One and Two or the public will continue to be unaffected by the politics. Bet they wish the Olympics were starting now.
No. People aren't going to stop watching EastEnders or Strictly because of a scandal involving a bunch of politicians and bureaucrats. And therein lies the BBC's great strength in surviving scandals like this.

I agree it certainly would be tragic, which I think remains the best broadcaster and will survive this, but I do wonder if there will be a slight ripple from the effects of Newsnight on their programmes and audience figures or let's hope it could go unscathed.

I really don't see any reason for the BBC to sack Tess, even if she isn't the most charismatic presenter on television. Strictly is a success because of its strong format, not because of its presenters. There's no evidence that the Tess/Claudia combination on a Sunday damages ratings.

Personally i think if and when Bruce leaves Strictly i think the best person to take over his job would be Anton du Beke

Good for both shows, especially Strictly - great rating there.
Merlin pretty stagnant though - which is unusual for the series, Morgana heavy and a lack of variety in the weekly plots can't really be helping.

Friday ratings from DS, hopefully Saturday's will be coming soon:

BBC One's Friday night sitcom Me and Mrs Jones is still struggling to pick up viewers, the latest overnight data for November 9 suggests.

The romantic comedy, featuring Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey, could only muster 2.42m (an 11.2% share) in its 9.30pm junction.

BBC Two documentary Natural World overtook BBC One between 9.30pm and 10pm as a result, averaging 2.62m (11.8%) in its full one-hour slot.

Have I Got News For You managed nearly double the audience of Me and Mrs Jones from 9pm until 9.30pm, as Damian Lewis's night in the hot seat drew 4.72m (20.6%).

Meanwhile, a celebrity edition of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? interested 3.26m (14.7%) on ITV1, as well as 179k on +1.

Channel 4's third part of Derren Brown's controversial Apocalypse attracted 1.46m (6.6%) and 257k on timeshift, while Alan Carr: Chatty Man entertained 1.38m (7.9%) from 10pm (+1: 257k).

Elsewhere, QI commanded a decent 2.69m (13.7%) for BBC Two at 10pm, while 3.8m (26.3%) watched The Graham Norton Show on BBC One from 10.35pm.

The Mentalist anchored Channel 5's schedule with an audience of 1.43m (6.4%) in the 9pm hour, adding a further 142k on +1.

Overall, ITV1 topped primetime with 21.1% (+1: 0.7%), beating BBC One's 18.2%. BBC Two earned third place with 9.5%, comfortably ahead of Channel 4's 5% (+1: 1%), and Channel 5's 3.7% (+1: 0.2%).

Merlin for me, while good, is possibly one series too many. It's getting daft now.

Same rating as it got last year.

Yet
Good for both shows, .
Nonsense in the case of the X factor which got the same poor rating as 2 weeks ago despite having a far better slot.

Awful for Me and Mrs Jones. Better off replacing it with repeats of another Mrs from next week that would probably get at least 2 million more viewers.

I think it's fair to say that this is highly unlikly now. A few years ago they were obviously grooming him with presenting jobs on Hole In the Wall and that daytime cookery show he had with Lloyd Grossman. People also forget that he was a permanent judge on the first series of Let's Dance for Comic Relief.
But since 'racegate' with Laila Rouass he hasn't had any other BBC jobs outside of SCD!

@Sam_Hodges: Last night's #Strictly averaged 10.4m/42.6%, peaking at 11.6m/46.5% #BBC1 #SCD

@jscummins: The X Factor on ITV1 peaks with 9.6m, averaging 8.4m (inc+1)
this warms my heart, and at a time it needed it.

Merlin flat for most of the episode, the only redeeming bits came at the end.

So HIGNFY averaged almost half of last night's X Factor peak, which was up on the last two. Ouch.
