Imagine a show where...
You voted for the singer(s) you want OFF the show instead if the one(s) you want to keep. Christopher’s would be the first number I would call. Maybe people have been confused and think that’s how it really is?

Bad idea imo; much like Big Brother it would just result in some of the unremarkable cannon fodder sailing through for weeks on end against more polarising but talented contestants.

Imagine a show where the phone lines open after the last person has sung..
I'm sure that's how it used to be done and maybe then there'd be more chance of it being about the performances than the "personalities," or who people think is "cute." But, I doubt it! Rich. x |

That's how it used to be isn't it? Phone lines would open once the final act performed?
I was quite surprised to hear Dermott saying "The phone lines are open now," right at the beginning of the show the other night.. It kind of defeats the object that we might be voting for the best performance, and while we know that probably isn't happening as some have made their minds up from the first auditions, one of the reasons why I'd prefer to go back to those being done only in front of the judges, it'd be nice to think that some people are basing their decisions solely on the performances on the night itself.. However, I'm sure that the decision a few years back to have people audition in front of the public is, like the decision to open the phone lines at the start of the show, a massive money making exercise.....Kerr-ching! I'm assuming that in order to watch the auditions you have to pay..I doubt whether that's a free seat on a first come, first serve basis? With the voting you'd still have nearly 24 hours to hit the repeat button! ![]() Mind you, with Strictly, you get about 15 minutes tops! Rich. x |

I would like voting off rather than voting to save. Dermot could announce the voting numbers in the pun-filled way that Ant and Dec do on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
"If you want Lucy SpragGONE, add 01 If you think Maloney's baloney, add 02 To say bye to Kye, add 03 If Ella's not your bella, add 04 If you want a District-free show, add 05 To dissolve the Union, add 06 If James gives you Arthur-itis, add 07 To be mean to Jahmene, add 08 If you want to put Jade on the next soul train home, add 09" |

Maybe the show is on the rocks and they're planning to rake as much in while they still have time. Why not keep the phone lines open all week and have done with it? Rich. x Last edited by neorich : 24-10-2012 at 06:53. Reason: spelling |

When the original Pop Idol was on, the listings magazines had it so that you did just that - vote for the one you want kicked out. However by the time the first live programme came on, they had changed the format to voting for your favourite. Also they never opened the phone lines until after everyone had sung.
As for keeping the phone lines open all week, Strictly used to do that! Another thing that bugs me is that in both programmes the host says "vote for your favourite", even if they sing off key and dance like an elephant!

Well, Gill..you've just said a cotton picking thing. Lamentably this show has never been about any sort of objectivity, though I've no doubt that some people do weigh up the actual performances and vote for who they thought performed best on the night.. Rich x |
