My question is, I have the new 2tb sky box, about 12 months old, that I will not be using after the Sky switch off, could I use the 2tb drive from the Sky box to upgrade the HDR 1000s, rather than buying a drive, or is the drive unsuitable?
If it is compatible, are there any other issues I need to consider?
I appreciate any advice.

You should be fine, I whipped old my old 500GB from my old sky unit (which was a Seagate Pipeline drive) and put it in my old Foxsat HDR afterI formatted via the PC but to be honest i dont think i even needed to do that.
I have just bought my HDR 1000S refurb unit for £130 bought a new WD 2TB and just threw it in without any issues, the only issue you
may have is to do with Sky's OS/partitioning on the 2TB drive and you may have to format it via pc before you install but i'm not 100% sure so wait for someone else who knows more then me.
In a nutshell your Sky drive will be fine as far as hardware goes, as i say only concern i have is Sky's partitioning but a simple format should sort that, In my case i had to buy the new WD drive (SATA6) so had to use a jumper to drop it down to SATA3 speed if you need to do this and dont have a jumper drop me a line i'll send you a couple FOC.
As for the doing the job it's a 10 min (if that) job and away you go.
