Apparently Guy Chambers is working with various artists to re-record "He aint heavy (he's my brother)" and release it on 17th December.
The proceeds of the single will go to funding the continuing 'Justice for the 96' campaign, including legal fees and will directly compete with the Xfactor winners single for Christmas number 1.
So do you guys think this will knock Xfactor off the no 1 spot this year? Should it?

It is a charity that has personal significance to me and I was especially moved when Everton played it during their Hilsborough tribute. Would much rather see that than Xfactor turning another good song into a watered down, commercial version of itself.

If neither is anything to do with Christmas then they can both sod off and stop ruining the Christmas #1.

Here are the artists involved

Mel C,
Shane MacGowan,
Mick Jones (The Clash),
Peter Hooton (The Farm),
Pete Wylie (The Justice Tonight Band),
Richard Hawley,
Chris Sharrock (Oasis),
Ren Harvieu,
Dave McCabe (The Zutons),
Paul Heaton (Beautiful South),
Hollie Cook,
Jon McClure (Reverend & The Makers),
John Power (Cast),
Beverley Knight,
Gerry Marsden (Gerry and the Pacemakers).

Interestingly enough Robbie Williams has also been confirmed to feature in the song.

As I am a LFC supporter, I will be buying this record instead of the X Factor winners single, regardless who wins.

Has to. X Factor's winners single is released two weeks before Christmas again like last year. The Christmas chart won't be until December 23 this year.

Obviously X Factor doesn't aim for Christmas Number 1 anymore and so it shouldn't. Really, the final is only being moved forward again like last year so it guarantees the winner number 1 in the charts on the week of its release.

The song was played by Everton during their Hilsborough tribute to symbolise their standing shoulder to shoulder with their rivals and is also the last record Margaret Aspinall bought her son before he died in the disaster.

I would imagine those who care are free to discuss whilst those who don't are free to ignore.

As long as it's not the obligatory crap X Factor song, I really don't mind. It's the not the be and end all it used to be, having a Christmas No 1 now.

I know it's for a good cause, but the charity covers and anti X Factor campaigns are just as boring as the X Factor number one grabbing was in the first place. No current bands ever try to release a decent, light-hearted Christmas song these days, not since the Darkness, for me.
