foxsat hdr and fox t2 plus NAS drive
hi can you please give confirmation


1)a NAS drive to the foxsat hd t2 and record and watch another channel on the same band or record two channel while watching one of the recorded to a NAS drive external storage can it record to the NAS drive


2)the foxsat hd t2 view foxsat hdr recordings over network


3) or if not on the foxsat hd t2 (freeview) what about doing the above on a format t2 hdr 500gb

4)what about pushing recordings from foxsat t2 hdr(freeview) to a NAS drive then viewing them remotely possible?

HD FOX T2 (single tuner pvr ready box - records to external drive)
HDR FOX T2 (twin tuner pvr )
DTR-T1000 (Youview twin tuner pvr)

There isn't a foxsat hd t2 (freeview). Foxsat means it's satellite box T2 is terrestrial equivalent of S2 (DVB-T2/DVB-S2)

I'm so sorry ok if I add an NAS drive which also can work as a USB hardrive to HD fox t2 would adding the NAS hard drive then turn it into a twin turner recorder

or has the twin turner facilty they way it operates have nothing in relation to do with the hard drive ?

as my understanding was because the fox hdr has a hard drive built in that's what gives it the twin turner capability now from your explanation it seems its got nothing to do with the hard drive but in fact they built the two machines are built differently the fox hdr and the fox HD

so they put twin turner mechanism in the hdr and not HD model why seems like a waste or cheap cost measure that deems it worthless?


any way now I found out I'm going with the fox hdr model can the fox hdr move recordings to a NAS drive then be played from a pc that connects to the NAS drive

and secondly can the fox hdr pick up the foxsat recordings and play them or vice versa

The hard drive is nothing to do with whether it has two tuners or not, most but not all pvrs have two tuners. Some have only one.

A HD FOX T2 has only a single tuner, it can only record to a usb drive it has formatted and only 1 channel at a time.

Like all Humax boxes it's tuners can work with two channels at a time provided they are contained within the same multiplex (eg record BBC-HD watch BBC1-HD) using just one tuner. You can't play recordings made on this box on anything else.

The HDR FOX T2 can export recordings to usb and remove encryption for SD. These will play on a Foxsat-hdr if you use AV2HDR to create the support files needed. Using Custom firmware you can do the same with HD recordings but to play these on a Foxsat-hdr you need to replace the aac audio with ac3.

Foxsat-hdr recordings copied to usb (and HD ones if recorded without encryption) should play on a HDR FOX T2 (and a HD FOX T2). Adding the custom firmware allows streaming of SD (and unencrypted HD) directly from a Foxsat-hdr to a HDR FOX T2.

thank graham nicely explained out of curiosity how is it recordings that's recorded on the fox HD t2 can not be played on anything but the fox t2 hdr can export and play on the foxsat

why limitation on one box(fox t2 HD with an external hd ) that same model but one turner can't but then the twin turner box fox t2 hdr export and play on format quoting you can play recording made on this box on anything else

Recording was added as an extra to the HD FOX T2. Both boxes encrypt all recordings. THE HDR FOX T2 removes the encryption on copying SD recordings to usb, it can be persuaded to think HD are ones SD and do the same.

The HD FOX T2 won't decrypt at all (though it can be made to think its a HDR FOX T2 and decrypt again using a customised firmware (one for the geeks though )

incidentally a HDR FOX T2 will stream HD to a HD FOX T2 but not vice versa.

interesting the FOX Hd can not export without adding custom software but the fox hdr will withoutnany custom software is this because from the start humax knew already to let the fox hdr transfer recordings so its part of it but knew the fox hd would only be a reciver and not a recorder hence why they didn't bother adding the ability to decrypt

I was going to get a HD FOX only and add a USB hard drive which also doubled as a NAS record directly onto the NAS and stream recordings from it to pc ideally I would like to stream it to foxsat instead but I understand foxsat hdr won't see the Fox t2 her recordings on the network or will it?

plus only recording some channels which watching another seemed limited as you said this is only possible if its on the same MUX hope I'm right here

so I decieded to get the FOX T2 HDR for two channels recording no matter what the MUX then I will transfer to the NAS via USB plugged in the humax FOX T2 HER then get the foxsat to see the recordings


and hopefully do the same withthe foxsat HDR recordings is make the FOX HDR see the Format recordings on the network

You have to replace the audio on HD recordings made on the HDR FOX T2 before you can start to view them on a Foxsat-hdr (as I said before) and you have to install custom firmware to decrypt HD. You can't stream anything to a Foxsat-hdr, you have to use AV2HDR to create the required support files and either ftp them to the Foxsat using the custom firmware or transfer them using usb. SD recordings made on the Foxsat should be capable of being viewed on the HDR FOX T2 if you install the DNLA server software using the custom firmware. Unless you use non-freesat to record HD on a foxsat-hdr you can't view the recordings on anything else.

ok I want to view the standard recordings from foxsat on the fox t2 do I install the custom firmware on the foxsat or the fox t2 ?

right so no viewing the fox t2 recordings on foxsat via dnla? What a let down unless your saying if I'm getting it correctly is the only way is by transferring to usb from foxsat standard recordings and using AV2HDR to add the supporting files then viewing it on a foxsat but I can do it the other way round foxsat recordings on the fox t2 via the snow

why is it the fox t2 can view the recordings via dnla but it won't work the other way round foxsat viewing fox t2 recordings what's so different why the lack of on the foxsat surly should of worked both way round

The foxsat-hdr has no media streaming capability built in. The custom firmware for it has a DNLA Media streaming package you can install. It can only work as a media server. There's no way to use it as a media client. It's a very old design and the chip it uses isn't capable of media client use. Some very clever people have found a way of installing media server capability that can access the recordings list on top of the built in software. Without the built in software support for playback of non native video the reverse isn't possible. The much newer HDR FOX T2 has built in Media server and client capability. The new Freesat HDR-1000s launched with client capability, with server capability promised in a future update. This one should work both ways with a HDR FOX T2. It's all a bit complicated what box can do what both natively and with additional software help.

That's an intriguing euphemism don't you mean HACKED firmware. Custom would seem to suggest some level of support acceptance by Humax, which would seem unlikely due the level of IP infringment enable by the firmware.

No hacking involved. The existing Humax settop application isn't hacked in any way. The box works 100% normally, the additional software is largely standard linux applications, installed into the area used for photos/music and accessed by a computer using a web interface. You can access with anything that has a web browser even from a remote location (anywhere with internet access)

Incidentally Linux is an open source OS. Humax are obliged to reveal certain details of the code used.

You may argue running it may invalidate the warranty (you can easily remove it). There is nothing illegal about this in any way.

Humax are most likely delighted. They must have sold thousands of extra Foxsat-hdrs as a result. Raydons software must have been downloaded by thousands.

So its not custom firmware ... its just software designed to infringe others IP...

Not at all. The extra software is either open source (the majority) or program code / script authored by the provider. One exception is Twonky which is a one month trial version..
