No. As others have posted, the lines should be open for Lucy so people can vote for her if they liked her previous performances or would buy her songs at the end of it. No contestant should be able to skip a week. What would happen if multiple acts were 'too ill' in the same week ?

What exactly is wrong with her? Is it the predictable "laryngitis" which equates to slightly sore throat?

Hmm, cynically; she must have been near the bottom in the vote last week.

If she genuinely has the flu, which seems to be dashing around Britain like wildfire at the moment, then yes it's fair she's not performing, it's a horrible illness and nobody should have to stand on stage and perform to millions with their future potentially riding on it feeling (not to mention probably looking) like that.

I guess it depends on just how ill she is. I saw she was at the film premiere the other night. Maybe a doctor has ordered this despite not being the case for Kye and jade last week. It must be a different thing to what they had. Tonight we will get the drama, to boost the ratings I suppose.

I've woken up incredibly ill today, so she has my complete sympathies.

If she is genuinely ill then she shouldn't perform .
She also shouldn't be given a free pass to next week .

I bet if it had been someone they wanted rid off they wouldn't be getting this special treatment. Probably couldn't find anything Lucy could sing on Halloween.

I think the show has ruined itself for viewers the fact so many can be so cynical that literally every move is taken as being an attempt to manipulate us viewers.

I think she must be ill if she's been ruled out, I doubt she was in that much trouble that taking a week out of performing for millions will do her good, Diana got a sympathy vote the following week, then people went off her and the illness still seems to be held against her.

Not finding a song for the theme is ridiculous as well, it's Halloween isn't it, as the theme? Any song could be moulded in, the themes are so vague these days.

Just wait until Christopher is ill. They'll FORCE him to perform. I feel sorry for poor Jade Ellis, having to sing with damaged vocal cords whilst Lucy gets a free pass because she is "too much of a talent to let go and illness shouldn't stop her". This is beginning to become the worst series yet.

Jade couldn't even speak for most of last week and she came on and just sang anyway, and turns out she did fine and got through off her own merit. In fact the illness probably helped, whereas getting a free pass helps no-one tbh, Diana certainly went downhill afterwards.

I don't think it is fair, if she's that ill to not perform then she should pull out (perhaps harsh) or just face the public vote without performing (perhaps unfair on her, but more fair than letting her through on nothing).

No I dont think its fair as Jade had to perform last week and also Matt cardle was really ill when he was on xf and still performed, Lucy has managed to attend the skyfall premiere and Rylans party this week

Sore throat is different to flu though, with severe flu you can barely move let alone get on stage and perform. If she was out on Weds, suggests she got struck down with this on Thurs.

I remember when Diana was ill people said she was trying to get out of performing a Mariah Carey song which was crap but noone can say that about Lucy as there were plenty of songs that would have suited her with these theme

Didn't stop her from going out partying Wed night did it and the Skyfall premiere? Severe flu and yet she can get out of bed and go out? Bullshit excuse.

So if they opened the lines and Lucy was in the bottom 2, they'd have a huge gap in the results show where the sing off was meant to happen. Then the judges would probably just vote to save Lucy anyway.

Severe flu apparently
If this is the case it's probably best that she's kept well away from the cramped conditions backstage at Fountain Studios where she'd be at risk of passing it on to fellow contestants and staff.

Hmm, cynically; she must have been near the bottom in the vote last week.
It doesn't make a lot of sense, though. By this thinking she'll be at even greater risk when she does return (one fewer contestant anyway and taking a week out didn't help Diana Vickers in the end).

Thing is, flu is flu, it's awful, but people these days hear "flu" and think "slight sniffle". Real influenza is crippling, if it is truly "severe flu" (whatever that means) then she's probably laid-up unable to get vertical and will be for a while.

Agree with the people who say she shouldn't perform, but the phone lines should be opened for her like the others.

Also another FM made a good suggestion that they could show a video of Lucy in rehearsals (presumably there must be one they can use as they often show rehearsal footage in the VTs)

Um, no. Wasn't Jade sick last week? I have seen people on talent shows sing in much worse condition. Most recently, it was the semifinals and a girl had pneumonia and still sang a rock song and toughed it out.
