We all know what, just out of interest?

Because I get the feeling that the thing we are all supposed to know is not really relevant in this case.

Because his purity ring is female?

Why? Is he officially gay? Or are you just speculating? He has done absolutely nothing to make me question his heterosexuality.

So pathetic. He's not gay.

His ring was initially on the wedding ring finger during auditions and bootcamp, I know as I fancy the pants off him and on seeing the ring assumed he was married. It has subsequently moved to the other hand.

As soon as he sang that tonight, I knew there would be a thread about the changing of the lyrics on here....sigh.....how do you know OP? if he is gay happy days, he also could be a straight very shy guy and hence maybe thats why they changed the lyrics as they have done MANY times in this show for many a contestant, that is why...

He's never once given any suggestion or inclination that he is gay, just because he is well spoken and abit 'posh' and nervous doesn't make him gay!

Read the lyrics to Killing Me Softly. All of you. It is not a song about a lover. The "him" that is "killing her softly" is a musician, not her lover. Had Jahmene stuck to the original lyrics, it would not have made it a gay version because it is not about a lover.

And that is why I am much more saddened that they changed his lyrics than I am about Jade's or anyone else's. It was not done to match Jahemene's heterosexuality. It was not done to hide Jahmene's homosexuality. It was done because otherwise some knuckle draggers might completely misinterpret the lyrics and decide he is gay and not vote for him as a result. I am saddened by the fact they catered to those people.

Probably cos he's straight and wanted to lyrics to reflect his sexuality.
In my opinion he should have left this song alone as its best sung by a woman about a man

Good points, I believe he should have picked a different song

Why would your default position be that he is heterosexual? He appears effeminate to me at first glance and the purity ring is an ideal way to avoid having to declare your sexuality. Wouldn't surprise me at all to discover he was gay but for the purposes of a female fan base he may have been advised that it wouldn't be in his best interests to do so now.

It would have sounded more beautiful to me if he had sung the original lyrics, as they were meant to be, as a tribute to Don Mclean. It didn't make much sense with the gender change.

It was probably done to cause controversy.

I don't care if he is gay or straight but changing the gender reference spoiled the song for me & stopped me tapping into it.

He also didn't add his own stamp to it at all, he might have 'the voice' but he sure as 'eck doesn't have 'the personality'.

I think you're spot on correct.

Jahmene sung fantastically well, but I don't like it when the song's lyrics are changed. Killing Me Softly is one of my all time favourite songs and I found it distracting as I'm so used to the 'him' and not the 'her'. Oh well, job done and Jahmene is safe for another week.

It doesn't matter one bit whether he's gay or not. It matters that he was forced to change the lyrics away from the writer's intentions to try and ensure nobody would assume he was gay. Like when Craig last year changed the lyrics to a Lady Gaga song (the world's most visible gay rights activist) so that nobody would assume he was gay. All this on top of the Jaymi Henderson 'instant conversion therapy'.

The X Factor is basically a fascist regime isn't it?

Agreed, he did a grand job, despite the changed lyric.
