i think getting used to a changing environment is a gradual thing. Years ago, I never used DD's to pay bills, prefering to manage them personally. Now I hardly ever visit a bank.
Tablets are the same I think.The price comes down, they are very convenient for some things, so penetration gradually increases.
Personally, I still prefer to buy silver discs, DVD and Blu - although possibly less so CD now. With film, I like sub titles, commentaries, special features, rewind, and repeat views. I get really irritated when there are now subs (Stargate Ultimate Edition springs to mind). Well worth owning the disc, and it probably costs less than the download anyway.
