Production subtlely undermining acts?
I was watching Jade's performance last night, and I'm concerned that this whole 'not quite owning it' angle is actually being written into the show purposefully.
I noticed that the music was much quieter in her performance, leaving her voice sounding a little hollow. There were far more wide shots of the stage, making it look empty and underused. In my eyes it wasn't a bad performance, it was a poorly produced one, and came across as very amateur. How is it that the same size stage looks suited for Spraggan on a stool with a guitar when she's on, but leaves a performer moving around the stage with several dancers look lost and insignificant? It's simple: camera work, stage design, sound. Any other contestants you think are being given positive or negative treatment in this way? The best other example I can think of is Rachel Adedeji, who, after being barely featured in the auditions, having very few close ups and attention, was then told "I just don't really know who you are". |

I thought the waves/ stormy sea in the background when Christopher was singing was to remind us he's a cruise ship singer.

They wouldn't sabotage her if she was interesting, talented or charismatic enough to keep around in the first place.

And how come so much is ploughed into Rylan's performance? He has the most money spent on his turn with all the dancers and special effects. Why do they invest so much into him and then go to the opposite extreme for Jahmene?

Yup... I also noticed that the backing-production was very weak for Jade's performance. This coupled with the underwhelming comments recently make me think that the show is preparing to offload her!
And then you consider that the talentless Rylan had backing singers who were drowning out his voice. Level playing field??? My arse it is!!! |

I don't think it was 'sabotage', but the first time I listened to Jade, my first thought was how bad the arrangement of the song was.

I don't credit the producers with enough intelligence to be able to pick a sing that would 'definitely' not suit a contestant. They probably do stack the deck in their favour though by only arranging for a dozen songs per week and making sure that their least favourites get last pick.

Gav,
That song has an awesome backing tune... what other reason could they have had for making it so quiet? |

Production of x factor and subtility? That exists?
