Sorry, I'm going tread on some toes here. Just have to correct something from the previous thread. The icing sugar thing with the Rae, Doug and Brendan set up drug deal.

Brendan was after getting Rae out of the picture by setting her up with real packs of cocaine. He roped in Doug as a go between as Rae would trust him and go through with the deal. Doug double crossed Brendan by going to Warren and telling him about the set up and asking for his help. Between them they came up with swaping the coke with icing sugar, with Warren keeping the real cocaine. Doug gave Rae the icing sugar knowing she'd be ok when she was picked up after Brendan's tip off to the police. Doug was actually always intending to foil Brendan's plan to frame Rae, not knowingly set her up.

I only bring it up as it seems ok for Brendan to get away with such acts, but if Doug or anyone else does anything vaguely "wrong" to Brendan they're deemed tw*ts and scum of the earth for doing such things. What about when Brendan did his best and succeded in getting Noah out of Ste's life? If we go by the principle that Doug is a tw*t for trying to get Brendan out of their lives then surely that means Brendan is a tw*t for what he did with Noah. And what he tried to do with Rae.

Don't get me wrong, I love Brendan. I think he's a fantastic character and easily a legend not just on Hollyoaks but across all the soaps. But sometimes HE is a tw*t to some people. I'm not saying what Doug has planned is bad, good, right, wrong, whatever. But if the suggestion is Brendan has done nothing to provoke it then, to me anyway, that's silly.

I know exactly what you mean, it annoys me when people try to write off the stuff Brendan does, not just the times when people say killing Danny was because he had to to save Ste, but the muling Carmel and the Rae stuff etc.

You don't really tend to get a lot of that stuff on here though, or maybe I just read things differently.

I know Brendan has done, and will probably do again, some unforgiveable things but he does tend to own that, maybe not so much lately with the rape thing but when he sold drugs we knew it was bad, Doug never gets held to the same standards.

I will always love the way a lot of people came to his defence over the con trick on his parents because his dad never accepted him.

He might want to get in a conversation about bad dads with Brendan and Ste sometime.

ETA And Doug was willing to set Rae up until Warren made him swap the drugs, I think it was a case of who he was more scared of than any moral problems.

Not here but in my opinion, Brendan was completely wrong for what he did by setting up both Rae and Noah and I don't think anyone here has said what he did was right or it was ok because it was Brendan as far as I've seen, why would they?

But I think Brendan was bad for what he did, so I'll say Doug is bad if he does the same thing. He's only setting Brendan up because he's insecure and he wants Ste, not to try and do the right thing otherwise he would of already done it. That is what I think it wrong with Doug's case.

Brendan was wrong and so that means Doug is too.

And not to sound like Ste, but end of.

As for Doug and the icing sugar, from what I recall it was Warren's idea and Doug was bricking it when Brendan found out. I don't think he did it to knowingly foil Brendan's plan anyway. I mean it's good he did, because it wasn't fair on Rae, but I don't think it was portrayed in that light at the time. This isn't a comment on who's wrong and right in that situation, just what I remember from the story itself.

Honestly I think Brendan is a complete and total asshole, and most of the things he has done have been terrible, and there's just no excuse for it.

The reason, that I personally find it ridiculous that Doug is doing this, is that Doug is supposedly this good guy who does know wrong. Everyone knows from his past that he has done some shit, but after the near-suicide experience, he's seemed to have gotten better. If Doug were really trying to be the better person, he wouldn't go behind Ste's back to try and get Brendan away. That shows that he doesn't have trust in his relationship at all.

I haven't really seen Brendan provoke recently either. Sure, he always seems to be where there are, but that's not always intentional, and that doesn't call for Doug to do anything.

The thing that annoys me beyond all is the picture that everyone paints that Doug is basically a saint. It's the same picture that some Brendan fans paint as well. Brendan is no saint, neither is Doug, and neither is Ste (I think we all know that).
