The one on the right in Union J, in my opinion, is the best singer on the show.

He is very good actually.
Shame he's buried away in Union J really, along with who he is as well. |

Now if only he can learn how to spell Jamie and he'll be coasting.

I really like his voice!
I just wish they hadnt brought that irrelevant fourth member into the group! |

He's really good, the group would suffer so much without him. Maybe he just lacks the confidence to be a solo artist.

Nah, Jaymi's talent is just amplified by how trash the rest of his group members are. By himself, he's pretty average.

He should have entered as a soloist, the other members of that group are average singers at best.

You mean that he's gay? To be honest with the other gay representation on this show being Rylan, Lucy and Christopher it's probably a good thing he's hidden away. And not tarred by them
![]() And this is precisely why the show can't get itself out of the out-dated 70's approach to sexuality that it has deliberately reinforced. Stereotypes are damaging because they label people in a far too simplistic fashion, and their existence still is why casual homophobia is far more common than people would like to admit. No one can be tarnished by their sexuality unless the show has already done a very good job of that already. At some point it has to be broken. |

I always thought Aiden Grimshaw did a good job of breaking the mould. |

I didn't mean that he would be tarnished by his sexuality per se. I meant that unfortunately because of his sexuality he wouldd be associated with Rylan and Christopher - and probably lose votes because of it.
I always thought Aiden Grimshaw did a good job of breaking the mould. It's damaging as well as out-dated, and when you have a vehicle like XF which is designed to shape public opinon in all ways they really should put it to some better use. Rather than the cheapest, because it's not like that is even working anymore anyway. |

I know him - he is a phenomenal singer (also a VERY talented producer). I was disappointed when I thought he was hiding his sexuality, but I just saw the DS interview with him where he states he has a 'thing for men with strong eyebrows'.

The last I saw he was falling out of a Daily Fail article with girls on his arm, dodging questions by being in a relationship, and having to make veiled references like 'she wears the trousers' which could be taken either way. |

I loove Jaymi. Individually he's my favourite contestant this year- amazing voice whilst being the funny, 'bossy one' of the group
I always look forward to hearing him singHowever, as much as I hate to say it, I can see why he's in a group because he never made it solo and amongst actual fans of Union J he's easily the least popular

Yeah, I expanded on my post a bit.

I really don't think the X Factor has much influence on public opinion anymore. However I do take your point that in most reality tv, anybody who is gay is quite obviously gay. As if every gay person is camp/effeminate and very OTT. Not.
Just as an aside, I was never sure if Aiden Grimshaw was gay or not? (ie I heard rumours to the contrary) And even changed the voting to make it purely a personality contest now and ramped up the sob-story game because of it. People can be very easily manipulated, if they weren't there would be no adverts on your TV at all. How people see sexuality is all taken onboard, how people see lots of things is all taken on board. When people are presented as just 1-dimensional stereotypes it also brings out the worst in people. On both sides of that stereotype. You need a counter to balance it out, or the stereotype becomes fact and is reinforced by those who don't know any better. |

Yup I was pretty blown away and taken aback about how good he was in that sing off. He is great. I wish he was a solo artist.

Look at what is going on this year to see how powerfully it shapes public opinion.

You need a counter to balance it out, or the stereotype becomes fact and is reinforced by those who don't know any better. Maybe you're right. I don't think he will be allowed to come out now though. With Union J having been in the bottom 2. |
