It didn't do Jedward or Cher Lloyd any harm. And Rylan is really thriving off it.

The X Factor is in its most basic form a platform for artists to get their name out there in the entertainment industry. By this logic, all publicity is good publicity.

All depends on help post-show.

Otherwise it will bury you.

True. But as long as the public are actively interested in a contestant, for good or ill, someone will always scout them out after the show. Cher Lloyd really is the best case to be made for the idea that being a hate figure on the show is actually a blessing in disguise.

Is all this bad attention, which is widespread and not just on this forum, benefiting Chris?

Jedward have sold millions for being the "joke" of their year, Cher's doing well in America whilst she was considered a spoiled brat here. So bad attention can actually pay off.

If he demonstrated his real personality (that the judges and contestants have spoken about) on stage, I have no doubt that he would instantly be a huge story.

When Misha B was bottom of the votes in week 4 last series, was this before or after the bullying allegations?

The very next week. But because she became a notorious figure after that incident, everyone remembers her and she's just had a hit single.

Oh right, interesting. I wouldn't mind one of the judges revealing Christopher's true identity for a similar outcome, minus the hit single of course.

Sadly I think that was Jade's downfall.
