As I follow the X Factor (and the US version, plus American Idol), I am always disappointed in the way that more female than male contestants seem to be voted off in the early live final rounds. Although women can and do win these shows, they always seem to have an uphill battle. I think that the weakness of the show formats is that there is no demographic analysis of the people who vote - and I have a feeling that telephone voting is dominated by women. I am extremely disappointed to see that in Series 9, the first four live shows have seen the elimination of three female solo singers plus the only band with a woman in it.

If Simon Cowell's aim is to produce world-beating recording artists, he needs to somehow compare the demographics of telephone voters and those who actually buy singles and albums.

It's always been like that, and always will be, it's the same on SCD, Big Brother, ect. It's annoying, but it will never change, saldy, unless you ban teenie girls from voting.

I'm sure they have their methods of determining voting demographics - just not publicly since it is valuable information.

It's just the demographics. Females are more likely to vote, and they usually go for males really, whether it's because they like their voice or because 'dey r well fit'.

I think you are right, and it devalues the later stages of the competition.

Different acts attract a different demographic. You just have to accept that.

I don't vote and never have. I think you're a mug if you do.

Lots of females vote for their fancies - that's why boys are kept in longer generally
