Vodafone promises 98% indoor 4G coverage by 2014 with premium pricing
Vodafone claims it will have 98% indoor 4G coverage by 2014. This will be achieved by utilising 800Mhz. Like EE it will also be launched at premium price much like EE. Mind you Vodafone were never cheap anyway. Quote:
Guy Laurence, head of Vodafone’s UK business said people need to understand that there are different sorts of 4G,” argues Mr Laurence, before launching into an explanation about the effectiveness of the bandwidths used to broadcast mobile signals. http://www.mobiletoday.co.uk/News/23..._campaign.aspxHe says that the sort of low-frequency 4G network that Vodafone wants to build will work better indoors than networks using other bandwidths – allowing the company to fulfil a promise of providing indoor coverage for 98 per cent of the UK. Mr Laurence declined to comment on the pricing of EE’s 4G service, which has come in for some criticism for its data costs, but said Vodafone’s service would also be charged at a premium. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/08635926-1...#axzz2AgDTdOvY No statement from O2 yet but Im guessing they will promise 50% indoor coverage by 2025 and only after Ofcom threatens to send the management on a free Holiday to Afghanistan

Vodafone and O2 are merging resources in respect of 3G coverage. EE are doing a refresh of their 2G and 3G network. But it seems unlikely any network will be looking to invest much in 3G coverage when they will be spending their money on 4G.
Consolidate and move on..... |

Do vodafone know something we don't??
They are saying in these ads about how fantastic their indoor coverage is going to be due to the 800MHz spectrum they will be using. As the auction has not taken place surely no-one knows who will be allocated what. While I realise it is VERY unlikely, there is a chance that Voda may be outbid be a new entrant (if I remember rightly there aere about 15 bidders for 3G licences) and not get ANY 800MHz spectrum, if any spectrum at all. Surely advertising a future product with buy out options etc is a bit out of order when the future service is not a foregone conclusion. |

Hopefully though this auction won't be the mess that was the 3G auctions, with billions going to the Exchequer to be wasted leaving no money to build the actual network. |

Vodafone purchased the top 3G licence, would be amazed if they don't do the same again.

I really hope 4G is done in a way that doesn't suck all the money out of the whole telecoms market. |
