I have now had Youview for a few weeks and today tried plugging the old gray BTV box in to see if it worked.

I am pleased to say thst it still works just fine, my recordings appeared and the guide was fully populated. Will now buy an addition homeplug so that this box can be used in the sitting room. I will then try simultaneous Vod on each box to see what happens. I effectively have a multiroom service.

Not sure how long this will last if BT switch off all grey boxes as they do not support the new software etc. Will wait and see.

As I am sure you know from reading the BT forum, some people have tried this combination and run into a few weird issues. Good luck though

Yes, I'm aware of them but most of these issues are in regards to multiple BTV boxes. In my case it's a BTV & Youview mixture. Will see how things get on and report back.

Multiple BTV boxes will implement (MS) 'Companion mode' which causes some odd problems with recording and playback on the different boxes.

I had this for a short while I was changing from a Silver to a Black box (and was parallel running) but did not fully investigate.

Sounds like you've got the best of both worlds there: a BTV box that works and won't ever get the new-look version, plus a Youview box to do the FreeviewHD. Long may it last

Before you put too much investment into it remember that once everyone is on the new look and Youview there will be no need to maintain and EPG for the silver boxes and it will quickly become unusable. Old and new platforms also have their own back-ends, so it'll be bye bye to VoD too.
