Is the previous week’s performance now important?
Here’s a theory for which we see a little bit of evidence, albeit tentative and inconclusive – does an act’s performance in the previous week’s show influence how well they do in this week’s vote?
The thinking behind this theory is that some voters may now vote for their favourite act right at the start of show, as soon as lines are open. If their favourite act did well the previous week, they may be more fired up to do so; if their favourite act disappointed the previous week, they may not. Evidence? District 3 hit the bottom two in week 2, after their disappointing performance in week 1. MK1′s Glee-style performance didn’t land them in the singoff in week 2, as many expected – but they were there a week later, in week 3. Their singoff opponent in week 3, Kye, also had a dreadful performance in week 2. Many of us were surprised that Rylan avoided the bottom two in week 3 after a mediocre showing; could he have been helped by clocking up some start-of-show votes inspired by his fun-filled week 2 performance? This week, District 3 were down to joint-favourites for the chop after the Saturday show, but escaped the singoff; could they have got some votes in the bank at the start of the show from fans remembering their week 3 barnstormer? Similarly, Union J had a relatively forgettable week 3 – might this have led fewer fans to dial in right at the start of the week 4 show? Of course, there are counterexamples (Rylan’s survival this week, to name just one); there are many other factors involved in each case, and it’s very early days to be placing any weight on this line of thinking. But it could be something worth bearing in mind. If there’s anything in it, you would think District 3 might be vulnerable in week 5 on the basis of the week 4 performances. |

i dont get why they open the lines before theyve sang?
ifyou vote at the start of the show- what are you voting on? that nights performance is then meaningless? |

Really good thread shraine, looking back on past voting statistics the performance from the previous week really does matter most of the time if an act is eliminated they were third from bottom the previous week.

I see what you are saying and agree that it may play a part. Also - the bottom 2 seems to change every week this year.
Week 1 - Rylan v Carolynne Week 2 - Melanie v District 3 (Rylan escapes) Week 3 - Kye v MK1 (District 3 escapes) Week 4 - Jade v Union J (Kye escapes) So to add to your theory I would suggest that being in the bottom two one week and surviving actually helps an act get more votes. At the start of the next week they are the act in the forefront of everyone's minds and now we can vote before anyone sings, I would suggest that is the act that will get more pre singing votes! |

its still stupid to open the lines before anyone has sang.
your supposed to judge them on the performance that night- not last weeks! |

Kye gave possibly his best performance last week, but I think he could hit bottom two again this week. I also think District 3 could be there as the tweenies will be voting like mad to save Union J
![]() However I do see what you mean, shraine. Who do you think will be in danger of a sing off tomorrow

Union j were in bottom 2 last week. So the theory is we hope not see them in the bottom 2 this week.
