I know. They just look like a drag queen on their day off. It's never suited anybody ever (perhaps Gary Numan in 1979).

The Union J boys are pimping out the Bieber-girl look while Kye is trying not to look 40!

I almost read that as the Union J boys are trying to out the Beiber vs Kylie look.

I've always liked a bit of eyeliner on a guy (even though I'm 56!) but this year's XF is going way way over the top.

Especially James. He has such pretty eyes naturally. I wish they'd leave him alone.

Depends on the boy. Aiden looked awesome in it when he did Thriller. Kye? Not so much.

I blame these guys!

Maybe if someone had insisted that they cut it out as well as "cut their hair," then we wouldn't be in the "mess," we're in today..

Mind you, I very much doubt whether they were the first!

I loved Marc Bolan with his eyeliner years ago but I agree Xfactor is going a bit too far.

I think it's ludacris for guys wearing eyeliners

So did I and Bowie..

I would say they went much further than a "bit too far!"

I think rock stars pull it off. It's just doesn't suit X factor contestants.

I also like a bit of eyeliner on guys but its OTT on XF.

On Kye it looks laughable and although he's not that old, it makes him look like a middle aged man trying to keep up with the kids! Why James agreed to wear it is beyond me? It doesn't suit him & should be banned for future use.

Don't care if the District 3 boys wear it as haven't got the slightest inclination to watch them.

Aiden Grimshaw looked beautiful with eyeliner. We need another Aiden!

Fair point..

Back in the 70s and in the early 80s, Top Of The Pops was one long parade of guys wearing all sorts of make up.

In fact, some of them, in interview, said they deliberately went out of their way, week by week, to become as O.T.T. as they could..in order to shock/upset, or invite comment.

It worked..and it seems that it still does!

I think Marc Almond's first appearance on T.O.T.P. caused a barrage of complaints.

James looks terrible with it on. So does Kye.

I agree Aiden looked good, but he looks like a model anyway so could look good in anything.

Adam Lambert looks gorgeous in eyeliner as does Brian Molko. If a guy has a pretty, rounded shaped face it looks good. Then you get people like the guy from the Kaiser Chiefs who just look ridiculous.

The thing is that guys need high cheekbones and, ideally, dark eyes to be in with a chance of it looking good. Aiden has that, but James and Kye both have very undefined faces, so it doesn't work. I do agree with another poster who said that James has nice eyes, though. I get that he'd want to accentuate them but eyeliner isn't the way to go!

So far I see everyone has opted not to use my new ( but genuine) pet hate word 'guyliner'.

No strong views on men wearing eyeliner but the word guyliner =

Totally agree, it's like using something like "balm," instead of "moisturiser,"

Well, so long as it helps a man feel he's not being emasculated by using something which actually amounts to the exact same thing.

Most of the boys are wearing just as much makeup as the girls did! i think the guyliner can look nice as long as it's not halfway down their face. (Kye and James)
