Just a heads up if anyone enjoys cooking / baking.

Tesco have Swartz herbs and spices on offer at 2 for £2

This includes vanilla pods which are normally around £2.50 each!

Thanks for the tip off, bex. Think I'll take the opportunity to stock up.

But they only have one pod in don't they? I buy premium Madagascan pods for approx £1 each in 10s, but depending on how many you buy, they can be less than 30p a pod. The gourmet pods with less seeds (which may be preferable) are cheaper again...and the delivery is free.

If you do bake and buy pods often enough, you may want to check out buying them online. I use Vanilla Bazaar.

Yes they do, i know that buying in bulk is cheaper but some folk might only need / want 1!

I could be looking at the wrong thing but those pods are priced at £5.99 for 10, still cheaper than Swartz mind!

Oh thanks! I have a pantry of spices but I need some sealed ones to take abroad with me - vanilla being on the list. I'll be there tomorrow! My daughter's a Manager in Tesco & it takes a forum to let me know. There again it takes her three days to bring me a loaf of bread home.

The gourmet are the ones @£5.99 for 10. They are still a nice length, but a little less plump with seeds than the premium. Perfectly fine if you're not splitting the pod for the seeds. The thing is, the more you buy the cheaper the individual pod. Ten would last me 6-12 months though, so although buying in bulk would be infinitely cheaper, most of the pods would be passed their best by the time I got around to using them (I think they are good for a couple of years though?).

It always amazes me how expensive the Schwartz herbs and spices are. I'd run out of cumin the other day, the Tesco own brand was 57p for 48G, the Schwartz stuff was £1.45 for 28G! Why does anybody buy it? The cumin literally works out as 4 times as expensive!

Just look at the prices per 10g. That's right, not the normal 100g or a kg. One set of spices for a particular dish were about £840 per kg (in dinky little plastic pots)

Oh, I get that herbs and spices can be expensive but the brand name stuff seem to take the piss somewhat. Yes, you expect brands to be a bit more expensive than Tesco own brand but 4 times as much is pushing it a bit.

Best place for spices is usually the ethnic aisle at supermarkets, when the spices are much, much cheaper than Swartz or the own brand stuff.
