Does the group performance have any effect on the voting?

Do you think however well the contestant sings in the group performance might help someone decide whether to vote for them or not, and they could end up in the bottom two based on that despite a rather abysmal performance the night before?

I think it had very minimal effect in past years since the performances were mimed anyway. Not sure about this year though.

Not on mine it doesn't..largely because the few times I've seen it, it's told me absolutely nothing about the performers that I can't gain from the solo efforts..

I suspect the "harmonies," are on a backing track, so I don't think it teaches me whether they can sing competently in harmony..

Nowadays, I zap through it and the rest of the show till about the last 15 minutes.

Rich.

I doubt it has much effect overall but it probably gains the contestants a few extra votes if they sing their line well.

Can't see it positively influencing anyone. Reverse may be true..... could foster a bit of resentment if producers are seen to be "pushing" or "favouring" an act by giving them a key or prominent part. Frankly I think most common reaction to group performance is please make it stop....

No, it just makes us want to vote them all off.

I don't think so. I really like it though, it usually shows up the bad singers or makes for some slightly amusing moments.

I'm not sure it's always fair in terms of how much they all get to sing - as in, they give the stronger singers more and the groups hardly do much. But I guess that's to be expected.

No, but it shows me who the best singer is by a country mile.
