Well, yes, you can do this now, but your advice isn't contemporaneous to my original request. At that time, most resellers would only commit to having them 'by next week' when you called them, and their websites hadn't refreshed early this morning.

I went to Apple's flagship UK store on Regent Street in the end. I got there at 06.20, just to be safe, and was about 20th in the queue. It was quite a lot of fun - Starbucks came round and gave us free drinks, and the Apple staff were chatting away with everyone.

Doors opened at 08.00, and I walked out with my iPad at 08.04. I've never been to a launch before - the Apple employees all lining up on either side of you, applauding and whooping as you enter the store, definitely takes some getting used to!

Are you for real?!

You asked for advice and I gave it, whether you choose to accept it or not is up to you but for gods sake don't post back saying my answer was contemporaneous!

If you chose to go to the Apple store that is again your choice.

Honestly some people.....

dont forget this is someone who chose to get up, join a queue and was overjoyed by being high-fived by the staff at a store.

if he queued from 6:20 and was out by 8:04 then I would suggest that Apple popularity may be on the wane

I queued for my iPhone 4 and it took about an hour, that was at an O2 store though.

I'm really sorry if you're offended by what I wrote; that certainly wasn't my intention. Your advice is sound and will suit others; I was just pointing out why I didn't reserve and collect from Argos - at the time, that option just wasn't available. A little dramatic, don't you think?!

I definitely wasn't overjoyed - it was all a bit much! Like I said, it 'took some getting used to'.

I think that might be true. Though I should point out that I got the 4th gen, which had very few adopters - about 95% of the queue were after Minis, and they all had to line up again once inside the store. I was pretty much in and out.

No doubt I didn't need to queue at all as it turns out, but I had the day off and thought why not - it was fun!
