Ooh i like this! I do think that Syed craves success, as does everyone. A lot of this may be cultural as well, not to mention Zainab's expectations. I think Danny brought all of Syed's doubts and confusion to life in a way; they've probably been present for some time but he was maybe able to compartmentalise them and not focus on them too much.”
BIB: Yes, I have kind of ignored the possiblity that Syed has had to re-adjust to his changing family relationships, all of which have been beyond his control, in a way - Yasmin coming along, Yusef and the affect he had on his parents. All this has happened and where he was when he was first with Christian (i.e. pretty alone except for Christian and Tam) to where he is now with Christian (family accepting Chryed, being a father, being divorced) is very different. I guess this is enough to make Syed question who he is and what he actually wants. These make for interesting points, on which to base a story - the problem is we didn't hear any of this until, er, September....now, I feel, we, the viewers are having to figure out Syed's head space ourselve, as EE did not sign post any of this stuff. Most of us don't have the time or the inclination, so no wonder there is confusion

Seems like I'm hardly on here now but you're right, Syed needs that unit around him. Yet Syed's tendency to conceal things and and Christian's insecurities play off each other and tend to become exaggerated when they're both under stress and revert to type. There are trust issues but I kind of feel Syed is concealing things because he doesn't want to lose Christian and yet because that plays to Christian's insecurities, he may end up doing so anyway.”
BIB: This is a good point and, to be honest, it is these issues that I believe EE are trying to wrap the story around. Christian is insecure, understandably, for A LOT of reasons - age gap, experience, that Syed has let him down in the past (not because he wanted to

). He needs to be reassured, but Syed often conceals things, so as not to worry people or not to hurt them, and as you say, the lying makes Christian more insecure. It's a bad combination!

He wants to - that was clear on their wedding day - but it takes time to come to terms with it all.
Yes, he messed up big style with the money and his family, and he lied to and cheated on Christian. He knows that, and there's an element of he doesn't even deserve to be happy/with C because of that which could slow down the closure-stuff.
That's why when he realises Christian met up with Danny behind his back and believed that it was more then a kiss he's thrown. His rock is now doubting him, compounding every negative thought he's had. When he realises Christian might be questioning their life together he realises that it's exactly what he wants. It's that classic scenario; you don't know what you want 'til it's gone.....”
BIB: This, I hope
I don't want to think that Syed slept with that creep - yuk

Nobody appears to have a nice word to say about Danny.
