I think, and this is just my opinion, that tptb probably thought they had got what they wanted/needed.
Like Richard said in his interview when the Syed story was pitched at a writer’s meeting they all knew it was going to be a risk and there was some hesitancy but in the end they got the nod of approvement. They agreed it was a story worth telling but as long as they did all the research and got it right.
I suspect this is where Imaan came in... being the leading and only UK support service for gay Muslims, that is. Imaan helped them in shaping moral, social and religious dilemmas and making it as realistic as possible. However, I think once EE felt they had a clearer idea of the issues people like Syed face, they didn't need Imaan's help anymore.
I do have to applaud EE with NYD though. Even after Imaan’s involvement, I think they managed to pitch that right.
Really the faith element got lost after Chryed’s reunion. It’s a shame. He may have accepted his sexuality, but he was still very much a Muslim. We didn’t need to see him struggling but praying, reading the Koran, talking about going to mosque… I expected these things because his faith is still very much a huge part of who he is. Being with Christian didn’t and doesn’t change that that the fact that he is a religous man. Like he said he is is gay AND Muslim.
