Taylor Swift's sales for "Red"
This has probably already been posted, but I think she deserves another mention.
Taylor Swift’s new album “Red” sold a whopping 1.208 million copies last week in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, scoring music’s highest weekly sales number in more than a decade (since 2002’s “The Eminem Show”), and what's more...she did not need to sell her album for 0,99 cents or show up on every T.V/award show to do it. Album of the decade! |

And lets not forget this is the second album on the trot that she has sold 1M plus in the US alone on release week. She is the biggest female artist on the planet without a doubt.

Do they have Tescos (sic) in the US as well?
It will be interesting to see her first week's worldwide figure so we can see if GL's claim can be backed up.......

The sales are just one string to the bow that makes her the biggest artist on the planet, no one else can touch her at the moment. Unlike other lesser artists taylor offers the music world far, far more then just sales.

Congrats to her. She's definitely America's Sweetheart.
Want to pass that logic by me? She wasn't close to being the biggest female artist on the planet after selling over a million copies of Speak Now in its debut week, so how is this different? |

album sales - adele beats her, gaga was roughly the same as her until red sales of a single album - adele beats her worlwide fame - adele, gaga, beyonce, rhianna, katy perry and many other beat her us no 1's - adele, katy perry, gaga beats her biggest tours - madonna x2, pink, celine dion, gaga, britney spears sales outside america - adele, gaga, rihanna the only category taylor swift wins in is us album sale over the last 5 years - she is nowhere near being the biggest female artist in the world, never mind the biggest artist in the world |

Explain to me how having listened to Red it's an enjoyable album that incorporates current (big)trends with her old supposed country style she offers no more or less than anyone else just happenes to appeal to a large demographic which in it self is comendable but others do too.

As much as I like Taylor, this is absolutely ridiculous. She's decent, but "Biggest artist on the planet" is pushing it a bit. Sorry, luv.

Not knowing the singer well (not a young teen but aware of her country/pop genre) her sales in the US (which make up 90% of her total) are skewed by the country/pop market. Basically she has two markets (country market, and pop mainstream), so you dont get an accurate figure of her mainstream success, hence she wouldn't be in the league of Gaga, Adele, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Beyonce whom everyone knows.
The country market in the southern US states is very lucrative...the likes of Kenney Chesney (who?) have the 2nd highest touring receipts in the US. Alison Krauss (again who?) has something like 22 Grammys. The young girl will do extremely well financially with the double whammy advantage of having two markets. Her recent song is very catchy (Max Martin does it again) so good luck to her. |

I understand deleting posts where personal insults are made at other members but ridiculous how any post in this thread that referred to ADELE was deleted

I'm afraid that is an absolute ignorant view which I personally feel insulted by. While I don't doubt a fair few 12 year olds got their parents to buy the album she does have quite a diverse fanbase. There are much more appropriate artists for a 12 year old to be listening to and I don't see the selling 1.5 million in one week. It's an easy and uneducated thing to say and quite clearly an out of touch statement.

, saying the "12 year old thingy" whch many do here is a very lame way to try to discredit the biggest female artist on the planet at the moment and maybe the greatest female songwriter for decades, rise above it
